I found this show intriguing, It has some bad points but i have found it enjoyable to watch.
Yes, Its an Aussie drama and seems repetitive at points after watching all 8 episodes i found myself hanging on to know what happens next, I feel they have just tried to fit too much into only 8 episodes.
The story had a suspenseful aspect and leaves you wanting to know more, more about the history and the future of the town, Charlotte Best play her character well and as a far of supernatural drama i thoroughly enjoyed a more realistic spin.

If the scenery and cast weren't so gorgeous there'd be no reason at all to watch this. The other reviews point this out well. With a plot such as this I wasn't expecting much, but the acting is embarrassingly bad even for a day time soap (with a few exceptions). It made me laugh at the points where the drama was supposed to be riveting. Lovely bodies and mindless violence with nothing to justify or substantiate either.

Tidelands is basically a blend of supernatural sensual drama with near zero good writing, weak screenplay and development, average to good acting, filled with nonsense scene after scene and confused fillers all piled and mixed up.
Most importantly, it fails to deliver because of the hollowness surrounding it.
To its credit, it has beautiful sceneries, some nice camera work, a few good visual effects, some beautiful interiors and clothing though, which are the nice works of nature, VFX people and designers with taste.
The sensual parts were interesting, yet shallow and contributed nothing to the flow of the episodes.
The finale was interesting and the depicted was well done, begging for a stronger season 2, which would never happen.
In the end, we have a series, with some efforts put into it, yet because of planlessness went downhill pretty fast, will be quickly forgotten and archived.

So, I've read through the reviews first before giving my own.
A lot of different people have a lot of different opinions, which is fair! The series might not be for everyone but damn if you like, sex(y), intriguing, exciting, murder and plot twists then this is the perfect series for you.
I really enjoyed it as it was something new. I've always loved series who had sirens or mermaids in them. At the beginning of the series I was not quite sure if I would like it but the cliffhangers kept me going, and boy am I happy that they did. The series turned out to be great and just what I needed after my last series hangover. As soon as I've finished the last episode I was looking online to see if they were planning on a season two! They are not sure yet and it really depends on the number of views. Let me just say, if season two is just as good as season one then I would continue to watch this series.
Honestly, for this one you would just have to keep watching in order to really understand an enjoy it. Like I said, this series is not for everyone and that is okay!! Just make sure you like this stuff before you start watching it.

What can I say about this typical show? Foremost, the plot is moderately attractive, or at least enough to remain you stuck in the sofa contemplating it till it ends, regardless, there was a lack of delve in the characters, who in my opinion were shallow, they just put all the cast there and they naturally suppose we will instantly comprehend them. The script well... The developed script was plain and so easy, not bad at all, but absolutely not an outstanding work. The whole show is watchable, but it is just another standard TV Show. If you are precisely into mermaids and violent crime and nudity scenes, maybe you should prove it.
It's well written and acted. It seems the shows I enjoy most on Netflix are from Australia including Tidelands and Wentworth. Both are excellent. Tidelands is intriguing and infectious and is one of those shows that compels you to binge watch it.

Why review a show with the words like "nice" and "...it's not perfect but..." and then give it a 10 rating? And we wonder why the IMDB ratings are so screwed up.
As far as Tidelands goes, it's better than most ozzie shows that pop up but that ain't saying a lot. I don't know if I'll make it all the way through the season. Overall, I'd give it maybe a 6/10

Not great, not good. Pretty people dealing with secrets of all kinds. Some episodes have short steamy scenes. Some acting that is not wooden. If you're looking for something to bingewatch on a Saturday night and don't care about what you're watching, give Tidelands a try.

Watched the first episode just to give it a try.....ended up bingeing the whole dang season! The end of every episode is a cliffhanger.
I thought the acting was pretty great & the characters were rich. Insane plot with a lot of possibilities to take it in the future.
Refreshing new take on the siren spin & a good, mythological show for Netflix.
The Australian base was fun too, different scenery than most Netflix shows.
I hope there's a season 2, I'll definitely be watching!

I've only watched a few episodes as of yet and I'm enjoying the show, there have been a few times when the action was very predictable but I've also been surprised a few times. There is however a big hole in the story for me and that is the matter of the half siren half human bit. I think the writers confused Sirens with Mermaids, sirens of mythology were not aquatic beings they were not able to breath underwater they were a mix of human and bird like features not fish like.

While the concept looked interesting at the beginning, everything ended up ruined by the bad script, the bad acting and stupid cliches. Characters doing every little stupid thing that they shouldn't do just got boring really fast. Very bad CGI and make up.
What a way to ruin Siren Mythology... They came up with an interesting concept and they just ruined it by turning it into a greasy Soap Opera. I can't believe I watched this!

I binge watched this as there was nothing on Netflix new opening release weekend, so getting that out of way first! This program is not to be taken seriously in any way, so take that into consideration immediately.
If anyone has seen the Gay USA soap opera Dante's Cove with supernatural, witch, sexy, nudity, models made actors, outside of a few then Tidelands is for you! (By the way I stan for that show, wish someone would bring it back, check it out all) I just saw small and large similarities with above, Right down to blonde villainous.
The filming location wise, the ocean, beach sand etc was beautiful one can't deny that. So seeing off the jump this is Australian production; That can determine for many right there if that is selling point to start with. The accents of course are very visible, so love it or hate it.
I actually enjoyed the villainous's role, the campy some may say over-acting was written that way am quite certain. So don't hate on that actress. The main heroine, I saw nothing wrong with role, acting etc.. (except for that ugly hair/style not sure on either as looks like wig to me)
Enjoy this for meant to be cheesy soap opera it is, Where there is no 'super hero, powers really. As someone stated in their review, there is mermaids, but no Sirens seen or heard yet?!. The show very "repetitively" talks of all the men killed over many a year from such though! (Season 2 hints)
Perhaps Season 2, (which I would watch) will branch out with more story content; Flesh out other characters there now or few additional. This may enhance some substance many want, with a matched up ratio with soap element?
I don't watch USA, Freeform channel's 'Siren' show, gave it a chance. If this means anything having said that, this is better!!

Very, very interesting concept and plot. Nice scenery. Nice music. Nice costums. Nice dramatization of sirens.
Beautiful and sexy actors. All of them. Very, very bad acting.
Could have been so much better. If there will ever be a season 2, I hope they consider a few changes.

The quality of the actors, dialogue and story-line is variable. Where the strong actors are given their opportunity to act well they do so in a very believable way, absorbing and enjoyable to watch. They carry the slight and occasional weaknesses in the plot and dialogue and make the show quite watchable. If you are less critical with some of the actors who are not quite as convincing in their roles you will probably enjoy the show. The story tells a tale of the children born of a combination of man and siren, the tidelanders, and the role they play in a small coastal town's ways of making money. There is subterfuge in the human part of town, subterfuge amongst the tidelanders, and all hell between humans and tidelanders despite their strong reliance on each other as part of a production line "product" they make. Some good plot points, some unoriginal well-tried plot-lines done with very little new material, but overall the broad story is original and well executed. Worth watching, and will probably produce a second series. Also, my thoughts are a second series will probably be really cheap to make , not all that many of the first series cast left by the end of it all mayhem and carnage. Not a series for kids.

This is a perfect example of a show with an interesting premise that ends up not delivering. Good looking cast and scenic locations are the best parts of this show. Dialogue was often painful and didn't leave the cast with much to work with. Also, there is something I find very unlikable about Elsa Pataky...can't explain why, exactly.
Bottom line: not a complete waste of time, but could have been so much better.

I found the premise for this series intriguing. Unfortunately, there was little character development and a randomness to the character's actions. Most of the scenes alternated between sex and violence. I've watched shows that were equally sexual & violent but - because of the randomness - both seemed gratuitous.

Beautiful Australian land and seascapes, gorgeous women, handsome men... an interesting premise. The show really shines in the beginning when it plays more like an Animal Kingdom type of crime drama. However, when it shifts to focus on the fantasy elements, the story and some of the acting becomes cringeworthy at times. The better actors tend to be the supporting characters. The lead is okay, but when forced to play against the weaker actors, her own limitations are more exposed.
I might watch next season to see what happens... but it's a bad sign when I'm struggling to finish rather than staying up all night trying to see what happens.
