The Gaslight Cafe, once located at 116 MacDougal Street in NYC, was actually a coffeehouse in Manhattan's legendary Greenwich Village. Also known as The Village Gaslight, it opened in 1958 and was a famous club featuring musical acts, especially folk music. It closed in 1971.
The tail end of the joke that Joel Maisel (Michael Zegen) is telling, "where's the spoon?" Is also a joke told over the closing credits of Coming to America (1988) by the elderly Jewish man played by Eddie Murphy.
The routine Joel (Michael Zegen) does on Abe Lincoln was part of Bob Newhart's debut 1960 album "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" and titled "Abe Lincoln versus Madison Avenue". The album was recorded live at the Tidelands Club in Houston TX. It won Album of the Year at the 1961 Grammy Awards, the first and only time a comedian won "Album of the Year".
The pilot episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was one of Amazon Video's most successful ever, achieving an average viewer rating of 4.9 stars.
Midge proudly tells the butcher the Rabbi is coming to dinner. The next customer orders pork chops, which means the butcher is not a kosher butcher. If the Rabbi knew this, he would not come to dinner.
