The movie was first offered to Ranbir Kapoor who loved the script. Eventually, he chose to decline the offer due to scheduling conflicts with "Brahmastra - Part I".
Anushka at first declined to play the role of Mamta in this movie, stating that she won't be able to bring justice to the character. After getting convinced by the director Sharat, she finally agreed. She got rave reviews for her performance in the movie.
Varun Dhawan learned tailoring for one month to prepare for his character.
Anushka Sharma and Varun Dhawan worked in a textile factory in Faridabad for four days to learn how small scale business works.
Varun Dhawan, who plays a tailor from the heartland of India in this movie. Since in the film, Mauji is supposed to look well versed with handloom, he decided to perfect the same and met real handloom workers to learn the art of dyeing fabrics. He learnt dyeing from real handloom artists in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh.
