I stumbled upon the 2019 Japanese movie "Strega" here in 2023, and I opted to give it a go, solely on the account of it being an Asian movie that I hadn't already seen. However, I have to say that I am not really keen on the Japanese superhero genre, you know with the spandex bodysuits and helmets.
But I figured that since "Strega" was labeled as an action sci-fi comedy, then perhaps there would be some kind of fun and entertainment here.
And boy was I wrong.
"Strega" was quite an ordeal to suffer through. Why? Well, because of the spandex bodysuits and helmets, but also because the storyline, as written by Ryou Kumaou, was absolute rubbish. The script was not entertaining, nor were the characters. And as for this being a comedy? Forget about it, there simply was nothing funny here. I suppose you have to be Japanese and have grown up reading the Mangas with these kind of superheroes to enjoy this.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in "Strega", nor were I impressed with what I witnessed. The leading actor and director Bueno was painful to watch on the screen with his performance.
Visually then you're in for a treat, because "Strega" is plentiful in really, really awful special effects.
This movie simply isn't worth the effort.
My rating of "Strega" lands on a one out of ten stars.
