Actor Bill Oberst Jr said in an interview that the medieval torture wheel he is strapped to in the film was "real torture," its circumference having been built to the body measurements of an art director much taller than the actor.
Director Adrian Corona said in an interview that he chose the film's main location because of a "natural evil feel." The abandoned building in Veracruz, Mexico had once been been a sanitarium and psychiatric hospital.
For the lake and cabin scenes, the cast and crew took long expeditions on burros and camped in the woods to reach the remote mountaintop location in Veracruz.
Actor Peter Gonzales played Federico Fellini in Fellini's 1972 film "Roma."
