Not a bad film, but something seems to be missing

Once you see this film, it will stick with you forever. I really liked this film - it is both a bit disturbing and beautiful at the same time. I don&#39;t want to include any spoilers, but addressing love, loss, cults, and fate all among the backdrop of the total solar eclipse is beautiful. A very cool cinematic achievement!

I&#39;ve seen this short movie three times. Each time I&#39;ve found something new to appreciate. It&#39;s a rich film, beautifully written, directed and filmed. Both exciting and moving. The arc of the film rises from quiet and loving to tense and exciting. The performances are excellent. Ms. Maslany is simply amazing, as we have come to expect from this wonderful actress.

&quot;Souls of Totality&quot; is a new British/American English-language short film from 2018 and while the director and two writers are not new to the industry, they are not the stars here. Thes cast, however, includes some names you have certainly comes across in other projects. Tom Cullen for sure, but the one for me is Tatiana Maslany. These slightly under 20 minutes we got here are about a couple who is part of a religious group, a sect you could say maybe, whose supporters believe that dying at a very specific moment will have the find happiness for eternity, which means you could also call it a suicide cult. Now with said occasion moving closer, things do get a bit more complicated as there is the conflict if they should not only sacrifice their lives now, but also their love. The woman makes a pretty fast decision on that as it is clearly seen, but before we know which step the man is taking it takes until the end of the movie. But then the somewhat expected happy ending happens. It is full drama movie really, never anything remotely resembling a comedy and that is fine because it would not have fit the subject, but unfortunately I did not enjoy this film too much from the entertainment perspective. There is nothing wrong with it at all and it somewaht delivers in pretty much every field. But it feels really mediocre and generic too as if no risks were taken with a subjcet and plot that truly could have made a difference here. Instead they went the safe route and this really backfires as the film tries to be more meaningful and important than it actually is, also with all the emotions, especially at the very end. So yeah, only watch this if you really love Cullen and/or Maslany. Otherwise you aren&#39;t really missing too much here.

A special film. For story and atmosphere and the romance and construction. And for the delicacy of details. A man and a woman in a cult camp. A message. And the decision. All - in poetic air of a love story who use the Sci Fi frame for become more convincing and tender.
