Netflix's first Turkish-made series. In this respect, it has a different importance. The series can be criticized in many ways, but it should be noted that it is the first Turkish-made Netflix series.
A beautiful story was written by combining Turkish history and places with fantastic elements. In the first part, we see that Istanbul was brought to the forefront. Towards the end of the chapter, the story is revealed. Fluent and immersive, have a different taste. We immediately understand that this is a Netflix series. Another thing I like in this series is; showing past. The story goes back to the Ottoman period.
Çagatay Ulusoy are really good. I can't say the same thing for women actors. They are a uninspiring next to Çagatay. No need to tell Mehmet Kurtulus and Okan Yalabik. Mehmet Yilmaz Ak successfully playacts a small man trying to turn a big job. Although it is one of the remaining roles in the background, it is necessary to underline the player's success. I wish he had more roles.
Let's come to the bad sides of the series. The biggest problem of the series is dialogues. The dialogues were written so badly that even the best actor was unnatural. Continuously repeating the words of "immortal" and "guard". A little artificial. Cinematographer did a good job but vfx was bad. Special effects should have been better. The powers of the hero are not fully explained. These should be told to the audience. This beautiful story could have been better with a good script. After winning the superhero powers, there must be an improvement in his character but there is no such thing here. Still same. If you are making a superhero series, it must have plenty of action scenes. And these action scenes must be incredible cool. Unfortunately, there are very few action scenes. The series is nice compared to the standard Turk series, but it's a little bad for the Netflix series.
It should be noted that this series is a few steps away from the originals of Netflix in different countries. The lesser the budget allocated to the series may have an impact on this. Because with a higher budget, it would be possible to enjoy a completely different narrative that the journey to different times.
As a result; I'm positive about this series. For the first time, we encounter such a fiction. Of course, it has shortcomings, but it's never bad. I hope the series shows the success required and we have the opportunity to watch alternative productions like this. 7/10

I've never watched a Turkish series/movie before, but I was blown away by this show. I didn't know what to expect, but boy I'm really glad I gave it a chance. The characters are very engaging so is the story line. This series is complete it has a little bit of drama, humor, action fantasy, romance...all in one. Can't wait for season 2!!!
I am glad to see something new coming from the world of Turkish cinematography. The show is far from perfect, there are holes in the storyline, and the dialogue seemed sometimes really shallow and unrealistic that it made me chuckle on few ocassions. When it comes to acting, the character of Hakan was quite belivable, and the rest of the cast was quite solid.
You can see that the team really wanted to show the beauty of modern day Istanbul with glorius Ottoman history. And this is what makes the show special to western audiance, as this is the world we don't know that much about.
All in all, there is definitely room for improvement, however I aplaud the attempt to push outside of the box when it comes to Turkish production.

After season 1 I was excited to see a good storyline and hakaan understanding his responsibility as the protector but there is no development in his character and the season 2 feels dragged
The first season was great, the story line, the actors, everything. Season 2 was dragged and I didn't like it that much. I think it could be because it was released 4-5 months after the first one. Then we come to season 3, this season was amazing and so so so good. I wasn't sure if the season would be good bc of the fact that the previous season wasn't, but S3 made the entire series incredible. The only thing I'm waiting for is S4.

First of all, i know turkish people like to exaggerate their tv shows and movies and very nationalistic and possesive with their comments; so i will try to be objective as possible. When i saw trailer for "The Protector" me and my friends laughed and mocked it cause it seemed very pretentious and fake; in the end it kinda was but it felt weird because turkish television contains almost just empty comedy shows and cheap, cheesy romantic comedies. Worst thing about the show is dialogues could have been much better and some scenes were incredibly unlogical that it made fiction unrealistic. Like they point their gun in the face of the person(s) they want to kill but instead of pulling trigger they make them walk to chamber and next door and try to gas them just to makeescape/survival scene. Just dont its cheap and bad writing. In the end even it has much logic errors and some bad dialogs overall its intriguing, interesting and entertaining enough to keep audiance hooked. I think and hope in season 2 they will fix most of the problematics. So give the first season of "Protector" a try.

Just finished it. its average. fight choreography is boring, 3-4 small special effects in the whole season. writing is laughable at times but OK most of the time. Acting was too dramatic at times. Dont believe the 10/10 ratings. Alot of plot holes and choices that dont make sence. shut down your brain while watching this. i hoped it would be good like Dark but i was dissapointed. i expected the immortal to be more mystical and scary. they could have made them really interesting in terms of philosophy but they blew it and made them really boring and bland. i wouldnt imagine people who lived 1000 years to be so bland. if you dont have anything else to watch and if you have too much free time, then you should watch it.
P.S. i am turkish who isnt blinded by stupid nationalism.

Loved 1st season, story, acting, dubbing, and directing. But the 2nd season directing I think was the let down. Enjoyed the story. And I agree, was much better than Iron Fist.
Its always encouraging to see series that are not from the US/UK. It adds variety and a distinct cultural flavour to the list of series on offer to Western viewers like myself.
"The Protector" is a Turkish production that has a uniquely local flavour. Its story whilst myth, ties in beautifully with Ottoman history. Its characterisations are equally interesting and colourful, with decent acting to round things out.
The cinematography is outstanding, offering the canvass of Istanbul. Its a beautiful city, filled with history and this series makes me want to visit.
That said, there are some shortcomings. There's a lack of care in certain respects. The story often feels contrived and a little predictable and action scenes lack a certain polish.
That said, I have still enjoyed watching the first and second seasons and look forward to diving into the third.
7/10 from me.

It has a good story, and the acting is good. I watched it on Netflix with English dubbing. But I find Hakan's character deeply frustrating and irritating! He acts like a dumb fool for most of the series!

The story line is interesting and it's refreshing to have a different superhero style character in another country.
Amazing location for the series and great actors.
The series must be watched in its original language while you read the subtitles because the dubbed version is horrific. That's when the show becomes a rediculous farse as the characters sound either horrifically bored or extremely over the top in the melodramatic department.

Just binge watched the first season. The story is good, unlike the other Turkish super hero movies. The visual effects could be better but I believe next season, if there will be any, they will fix it. The reason I give 9/10 is to respect the courage and hard work that was put into this project. If the crew wants to keep the high rating, they need to correct their mistakes (like in a scene, one was talking on the phone while it's in the menu) and keep their effort in highest possible.
I'm shocked this got 4 seasons. Who in the heck paid money to make this and why did you choose him as the main character?? Dude stink and suck at the same time lol.

From first episode to the last, the Protector, serves its audience a bundle of outdated cliches kept together loosely with a boring and slow paced story. Chosen-one is found and gotten readied by a band of misfits, in search of a few magical artifacts to get rid of the band of baddies sworn to destroy humanity... A familiar story we have seen many many times before, only the Turkish production makes a complete joke out of each element, making the title further unwatchable. The cast is not bad but acting could not be worst. Literally there is no prevailing feeling or sentiment, rhythm or continuity in any of the scenes (let alone in totality of the production). Directing seems to have been done by a team of film students, all of whom wanted to copy their favorite superhero scene. The only redeeming aspects are Okan Yalabik's performance and the soundtrack (at times). If you have the choice of tormenting yourself by watching Iron Fist Fist for a second time or the Protector for a first time, go with the former! At least you'll get a sense of respect for your time invested as a viewer.

I liked season 1, it was original and different. I liked the characters, and the story. I enjoyed watching it and was usually staying up later than I should binge watching this show.
Then there was the end of season 1, where the bad decisions started being made. Let's let the bad guy live, let's make deals, blah, blah, blah. Ok, so they wanted to set up something for season 2. Fair enough, but they should have just let the show end after season 1. Kill the bad guy, end the show. Good stuff.
But no.... Then there was season 2. Bad decision after bad decision, bad plot twists and bad story in general. Don't drink and write. Ok?
Season 3 didn't get much better. I spent most of my time questioning why I was still watching this show. I zoned out somewhere in the last episode several times and ended up watching it over 3 days. Oh he screwed everything up and lost? What a shock.
So now there's season 4. I guess there had to be one, since Hakan is such a moron that he just couldn't keep his ego in check, and make some smart decisions. He lost in the present, now he's going to fight in the past. Good luck buddy. Not sure I can bring myself to watch another season.

This is the best Turkish Series for me. Because NetFlix is making good series and The Protector is one of them
Bottom line, the "good guys" in this story are so pathetic, so annoying, so disorganized, so inept, so ever at odds with each other, that in the end I want to kill them myself and I'm rooting for the bad guys to do it so that they can put me out of their misery. I watched an entire season and the 1st episode of the 2nd season. Don't waste your time with this one. Truly a shame. It's like you have a headache that you're hoping will go away, but never does. Take it from me, there's no need to hate yourself that much. lol

Wow! This show is what all the Marvel Defenders series wishes they had been! It's a superhero show set in Istanbul so the sets and shots are incredible. Fast-paced story and cool costumes.

The actor playing the guard plays so badly that the show is unwatchable just because of him. He just does nothing but yell left and right and trip. There are so many logic errors in the show that even kids spot it.
I love this show. It is a Turkish take on the supernatural genre beautifully utilizing Istanbul as a background. The young stars are stunning and a delight to watch.
After a shocking finale to season 2, who knows where the show will go in the future. I will be anxiously waiting for season 3

It is so good the finally see a series from Turkey. It represent our country, culture and language. However, I was thinking the whole shots could be more professionall. I watch so many foreign series and The Protector has had a very different atmosphere. Overall, this series is better than what's I expected. The think there after, Netflix Turkey could produce much more beautiful series.
So so bad. Over acting galore. Especially from the main character. I understand most of these actors have background in Turkish soap operas, but it was just too much, the constant crying and raised voices and the cursing. Just no. The emotions portrayed are juat so over the top. Managed 2.5 episodes and that was it. Just skip it.
