Long before Jesse Eisenberg and Sebastian Stan both earned 2025 Golden Globe Awards nominations, the pair appeared together in an indie coming-of-age drama that marked the directorial debut of rocker Fred Durst.

The Education of Charlie Banks hit theaters in 2009 starring Eisenberg as Charlie, an Ivy League freshman who is troubled when high school bully Mick (Jason Ritter) mysteriously resurfaces and inserts himself into Charlie’s life in upstate New York.

Filmmaker Peter Care (The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) was initially attached to direct Peter Elkoff’s script, which was based on the writer’s autobiographical experiences. Ultimately landing in the director’s chair was Durst, who had become an MTV fixture in the late 1990s as the frontman for rap-metal band Limp Bizkit. Michael Merino, ( Acceleration ), is set to deliver another spine-chilling thriller with his upcoming horror film, Texas Nightmare. Felissa Rose and Lew Temple ( The Walking Dead ) have joined the cast which already includes Sadie Katz, James Pratt, Eva Hamilton and Rufus Dorsey ( Pearl Harbor ).

Texas Nightmare is being produced by veteran producer Randy Charach, whose past credits include John Travolta’s The Fanatic, Beyond the Law with Steven Segal, and Wild Oats, with Demi Moore, Jessica Lange, and Shirley MacLaine.

The plot revolves around Angie (Katz), who, in order to complete a novel, heads to an isolated home in Texas Hill Country owned by a mysterious man named Tepes (Pratt). Soon she finds herself at the center of a life-and-death struggle.

IndieWire’s 2000s week continues in spirit with the highly-anticipated trailer for Kyle Mooney’s directorial debut “Y2K.”

The high school-set comedy stars Rachel Zegler, Jaeden Martell, and Julian Dennison as a trio of teens who have to survive New Years 1999 as Y2K literally happens. The A24 film was announced in 2023, with Mason Gooding, Alicia Silverstone, Lachlan Watson, The Kid Laroi, Tim Heidecker, Eduardo Franco, Miles Robbins, Fred Hechinger, and Daniel Zolghadri rounding out the cast.

“SNL” alum Mooney directs from a script he cowrote with Evan Winter. Mooney exited the live comedy sketch series in May 2022, along with fellow cast members Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon, and Aidy Bryant.

“Y2K” is produced by Jonah Hill under his Strong Baby productions, along with screenwriter Winter, Matt Dines, and Ali Goodwin. “The Bear” creator Christopher Storer is also producing under his American Light & Fixture banner.

Wētā Workshop handled the apocalyptic film’s design and practical effects.

Get obsessed with The Fanatic (Moose), an indie thriller directed by Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, now streaming on Screambox.

In the film, Moose (played by John Travolta) gets cheated out of meeting his hero, Hunter Dunbar. Moose then hunts down Dunbar to get the celebrity interaction he feels he deserves.

“Harmless at first, Moose’s actions begin to take a dark turn. Against the advice of his friend Leah (Ana Golja), Moose begins to make frequent visits to his hero’s private home. As the visits continue to escalate, Dunbar finds himself in increasing danger.”

The story was allegedly inspired by a real-life fan who pursued Durst many years ago and looks to be slightly inspired by Stephen King’s Misery.

Fred Durst, of Limp Bizkit fame, has ventured into indie films with impressive performances in "I Saw the TV Glow" and "Y2K." Despite his music career, Durst has directed films such as "The Fanatic" and continues to make music with Limp Bizkit. Durst's acting talent shines through in his varied roles, hinting at a potential future in more film and TV projects.

Believe it or not, Fred Durst is still making music, and he's added something else to his artistic portfolio as well. There are a few ways people may know the name Fred Durst. Most notably, he's the lead singer of the controversial nu-metal band Limp Bizkit. Others may know him as the man Eminem rapped about on "Slim Shady" when the Detroit artist said he wanted to sit next to Durst and Carson Daly. Still, younger people may only recognize Durst from his wild appearance in the Woodstock '99 documentary.

The Josh Ruben-directed, Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy-written feature follows a pair of co-workers in Seattle who are pulling overtime on Valentine’s Day. When the Heart Eyes Killer strikes, they’re mistaken for a couple by the elusive couple-hunting killer. The duo are forced to spend the most romantic night of the year running for their lives.

Republic Pictures picked up distribution rights to Heart Eyes excluding the U.S. and Canada.

Being an independent film fan is full of surprises, as each slate of festival releases brings a new wave of emerging filmmakers, breakout stars, and established actors playing against type in bold films. But it’s hard to imagine that even the biggest cultural omnivore could have predicted that 2024 would spark a renaissance in Fred Durst’s acting career.

The Limp Bizkit frontman, who helped pioneer the nu metal genre throughout the ’90s by combining hip-hop and rock on albums with poetic titles like “Three Dollar Bill, Y’all,” and “Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water,” has been a sporadic presence in movies for the past quarter century. Bill Kenwright, the prolific West End producer behind the hit musicals Blood Brothers, Whistle Down the Wind and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat who would later go on to become an owner and chairman of his boyhood soccer club Everton, has died. He was 78.

In a statement, Everton said Kenwright died peacefully, “surrounded by his family and loved ones.” This month, the Premier League club revealed that Kenwright had recently undergone surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his liver.

“The world of British theatre without Bill Kenwright seems impossible,” said fellow theater impresario Cameron Mackintosh in a statement on X. “In my lifetime, there has never been anyone like Bill. He’s totally irreplaceable, and we will miss him so.”

John Travolta hobnobbed with the guys in Pantera at the metal band’s gig supporting Metallica on Friday (August 25th) at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The movie star was among a bevy of celebs who made their way backstage, including fellow actor Jason Momoa (who also joined the mosh pit) and Mötley Crüe members Tommy Lee and John 5.

Pantera posted a gallery of backstage pics on Instagram (see below), showing Travolta engaged in conversation with singer Philip Anselmo and others. Other pics show the band greeting Momoa and the Mötley Crüe members.

Current Pantera drummer Charlie Benante also posted his own pics in which he’s chatting up Travolta, and hanging out with Momoa and other celebs.

Travolta is no stranger to the hard rock and metal scene, having starred in the film The Fanatic, directed by Fred Durst. In fact, he once impressed Consequence with his knowledge of Limp Bizkit’s music.

Yesterday, we shared an interview in which Robert Englund confirmed that his days of playing Freddy Krueger are over – and for his replacement in the role, Englund suggested an actor whose name comes up frequently when people fan cast a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie: Kevin Bacon. Bacon seems open to the idea, but there’s another actor out there who’s eager to take his turn wearing the glove and fedora. In response to the interview with Englund, Devon Sawa sent out a tweet saying, “I’d love to follow in his footsteps and play Freddie.” Forgive him for misspelling the name. It’s a common mistake.

A who’s who of music talent will make appearances in an upcoming A24 horror film titled “I Saw the TV Glow,” including Phoebe Bridgers as part of Haley Dahl’s side project Sloppy Jane, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan and King Woman.

Justice Smith and Brigette Lundy-Paine will lead the cast of “I Saw the TV Glow,” which is directed by Jane Schoenbrun and is in post-production now. The film wrapped production a week ago.

The film follows two teenage outcasts (Smith and Lundy-Paine) who bond over their shared love of a scary television show. But the boundary between TV and reality begins to blur after it is mysteriously canceled. Schoenbrun wrote the script.

Faced with over $8 million in essential renovations at the Egyptian Theatre, the American Cinematheque faced closing the historic Hollywood movie palace and ceasing to exist as an organization. And then, Netflix bought the theater.

That was the blunt assessment offered by Cinematheque president Mark Badagliacca in recent letters to the California Attorney General’s office, through which the Cinematheque sought sale approval — technically, non-opposition — in accordance with state law.

“Your approval of the proposed transaction is fundamental to the long-term viability of the Cinematheque as a charitable organization,” Badagliacca wrote March 12. “Without the Egyptian Theatre, AC will be unable to continue its charitable purpose, and it will likely dissolve altogether.”

Vertical Entertainment has debuted the first trailer for modern-day Bonnie and Clyde thriller ‘Infamous’ starring Bella Thorne.

The film follows the story of two young lovers who rob their way across the southland. Arielle (Bella Thorne) is a down on her luck dreamer who longs for popularity. Dean (Jake Manley) is an ex-con working for his abusive father. The two have an instant connection, and after the accidental death of Dean’s father, they are forced on the run. In an attempt to gain social media clout, Arielle live streams their exploits and robberies, gaining them viral fame but ultimately leading them towards a tragic ending.

Screen legend John Travolta stars as Moose, a celebrity-obsessed fan who feels slighted by his favourite movie star at an autograph convention. He quickly embarks on an unhinged quest to get a response, leading to a home invasion and a very long night that changes both men irreparably.

Directed by Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst, which he co-wrote the script alongside Dave Bekerman. The film has a cast of John Travolta, Devon Sawa and Ana Golja.

Quiver Entertainment, the North American multi-platform distributor launched one year ago by industry veterans Jeff Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz, has acquired the content library of collapsed Kew Media International Limited.

The Toronto-based company acquired the catalogue from Kew in administration and the content war chest encompasses films, TV shows, documentaries and animation.

Sackman and Berry Meyerowitz unveiled Quiver on the eve of Cannes last year and lined up John Travolta thriller The Fanatic and Nicolas Cage action thriller Running With The Devil as its first two releases last September.

John Travolta may be returning to television, as the actor is reportedly in negotiations to play the lead villain in the upcoming series, MacGruber.

The show, which is a continuation of the SNL sketch and then movie, is set to air on NBC’s new streaming service, Peacock. Will Forte is returning in the titular role and Jorme Taccone, writer and director of the film, will also be back.

At first glance, Travolta seems like an odd choice. But the actor has certainly struggled to keep his movie career afloat. He’s been relegated to VOD or little seen efforts, with work in such “classics” as Gotti and last year’s notorious The Fanatic. In fact, based on his performance in that, he could fit right in to MacGruber’s over-the-top tone.

After all, if there’s one thing Travolta knows how to do, it’s chew scenery, especially when he’s playing the villain.

The 2019 film Cats was honored — or rather dishonored — at the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards.

More commonly known as the Razzies, the awards ceremony honor the worst achievements in film for the previous year.

The CGI-filled musical adaptation of the hit Broadway sensation took home six awards, the most of any film, including Worst Picture and Worst Director for Tom Hooper. Other awards included Worst Supporting Actor (James Corden), Worst Supporting Actress (Rebel Wilson), Worst Screen Combo (Any Two Half-Feline/Half Human Hairballs) and Worst Screenplay.

Hooper’s win places him in the exclusive group of people who have won both an Oscar and a Razzie.

With all that is going on in the world the winners of the Razzies aka Golden Raspberry Awards , would fall under the category of most trivial , but sometimes in the face of adversity it might be good to remind ourselves there is still a light side to take our minds off far more serious things.

As a result of the Coronavirus crisis the Razzies were, like just about every other event, forced to cancel their big weekend plans for a live show (originally it was to have been streamed direct from the ceremony in Los Angeles), so instead winners were just announced today via press release.

The Universal musical film “Cats” also picked up Razzies for Rebel Wilson for Worst Supporting Actress, James Corden for Worst Supporting Actor, Worst Director Tom Hooper and Worst Screenplay for Hooper and Lee Hall. The film also won for Worst Screen Combo for what the awards cattily described as “any two half-feline/half-human hairballs” from the film.

Travolta won for both his work in “The Fanatic” and “Trading Paint,” and Duff won for her film “The Haunting of Sharon Tate,” in which she played the iconic ’60s starlet in a horror film.

“Tonight’s live Razzie ceremony had to be cancelled/postponed because the Mayor of Los Angeles shut down all city-owned venues where more than 50 people could gather, including our site, The Barnsdall Theatre,” said Razzie Awards founder John Wilson in a statement to the press on Saturday, March 14. Events all across the globe have been cancelled and postponed due to the global coronavirus pandemic. But perhaps all is not lost.

“Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show,” he added, “but we are hoping to have a video to disseminate by tonight – perhaps even by what had been our original ‘curtain time’ of 8pm, Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either … Under these circumstances, your patience and understanding are much appreciated.”

The Razzie Awards ceremony, the Golden Raspberry Foundation’s annual skewering of the worst in cinema, was scheduled for tonight at the Barnsdall Theatre in Los Angeles. But the event is either “cancelled/postponed,” according to a statement from the producers.

The reason? “Because the Mayor of Los Angeles shut down all city-owned venues where more than 50 people could gather, including our site, The Barnsdall Theatre,” said the statement from John Wilson, co-founder of the awards. “Without a hall, we could not proceed with the show. But we are hoping to have something to disseminate by tonight – Perhaps even by what had been our original “curtain time” of 8 p.m. tonight. Obviously, if there is no live show, there is nothing to be streamed, either.”

“Cats” looks like it’ll dominate the Razzie Awards this weekend, but there’s one category where it will probably be mercifully passed over: Worst Actress. The movie musical’s leading lady, newcomer Francesca Hayward, will be spared the ignominy of a win at these kudos. According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, Hilary Duff will win for playing the title role in “The Haunting of Sharon Tate” instead.

Show business sure is fickle. Four years ago Sylvester Stallone won the Redeemer Award from the Razzies for his Oscar-nominated performance in “Creed,” but now he’s back on their hit list, nominated for Worst Actor and Worst Screenplay for “Rambo: Last Blood.” He could extend an unfortunate record if he wins again.

To date, Stallone has won Worst Actor four times, more than anyone else: “Rhinestone” (1984); “Rambo: First Blood Part II” and “Rocky IV” (1985); “Rambo III” (1988); and “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot” (1992). And that doesn’t even count his “victories” for Worst Actor of the 1980s and Worst Actor of the 20th Century. He also has the most Worst Actor nominations of all time (15) — basically he’s the Meryl Streep of the Razzies.

Exclusive: Quiver Distribution and Redbox Entertainment have co-acquired North American rights to The Lost Husband, the Vicky Wight romantic comedy starring Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb. A theatrical rollout beginning in the top 25 markets is set for April.

Directed and written by Wight based on the Katherine Center novel, the story centers on a woman (Bibb) attempting to put her life back together after the death of her husband. She moves with her children to her estranged aunt’s goat farm in central Texas, meeting and matching wills with the ranch’s cowboy (Duhamel). Nora Dunn, Isiah Whitlock Jr, Georgia King and Sharon Lawrence co-star along with Carly Pope.

The film is a Six Foot Pictures production. Bibb produced with Bridget Stokes along with Wight.

The Golden Raspberry Foundation announced its picks for 2019’s worst achievements in film, a day before the Academy Awards honor the industry’s best.

Cats, which the Razzie folks described as a “widely derided feline flop,” picked up eight nods. A Madea Family Funeral and Rambo: Last Blood also received eight nominations. All three films landed in the worst picture category.

Tyler Perry, who wrote, produced, directed and played four roles in A Madea Family Funeral, received multiple nods — worst screenplay, worst actress, worst screen combo, and two worst supporting actor nominations.

The Razzie Award winners are usually announced the day before the Oscars. But according to the Golden Raspberry Foundation, the schedule was changed this year due to the Oscar ceremony being moved up. The Razzie Awards date will be announced later.

Although shunned by the Oscars, Cats racked up eight nominations to lead the 2020 Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. the Razzies, the annual celebration of Hollywood’s worst.

The Razzies are now in their 40th year, and the group typically announces its nominees a day ahead of the Oscar nominations. But with the Oscars moving to its earliest date ever, it also pushed back the Razzies, which are only just announcing the nominees list. The awards ceremony for the winners will be announced at a later date.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 344 feature films are eligible for the 2019 Academy Awards.

To be eligible for the consideration, the films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by Dec. 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days. Academy rules also state that a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020. The ceremony takes place on Sunday, Feb. 9, airing live from Hollywood on ABC.

Some members of the film industry have spoken out against Worst lists in recent years, deriding them as being merely snarky and negative. But I think they’re part of the yin and yang of good movies and terrible ones, laudatory criticism and constructive criticism. If, as a creator, you’re going to revere and appreciate a good review, then you also have to acknowledge that a negative review has equal merit. And without exploring our mistakes, we are doomed to make them again and again. Here’s hoping we don’t get a repeat of these low points of the year just past:

John Travolta is currently on the awards campaign trail for his leading turn in “The Fanatic,” but he’s making more news for talking about Quentin Tarantino than he is about his own performance. The actor said last week he would be eager to reunite with his “Pulp Fiction” director and now he’s calling out a historical mistake in Tarantino’s latest release, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Speaking to The Wrap during a Q&a session for “The Fanatic,” Travolta pointed out a historical error in Tarantino’s script when it came to airplane representation.

“Leonardo [DiCaprio] is going home from Italy or wherever he was, and the narrator says that he took a 747,” Travolta said. “Well, the 747 had its test flight in February 1969, but it went into service in January 1970. They’re nine months off! He would have been on a Boeing 707!”

John Travolta says he “would love” to work with Quentin Tarantino again — but he won’t force it.

On Monday night, the actor and director were photographed together at a celebration for Tarantino’s film Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood in Los Angeles. Tarantino, 56, famously cast Travolta in his classic 1994 film Pulp Fiction, alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Uma Thurman.

In an interview with Deadline following their reunion at the event, Travolta, 65, was asked if he would consider teaming up with the famous director for another film.
