It’s the most wonderful time of the year, so in between present wrapping and chestnut roasting why not watch some anime? Despite Christmas having a markedly different cultural role in Japan compared to many Western countries there are a lot of shows that use it as a jumping off point. It’s a good opportunity for some heartwarming character moments, be they romance or friendship, and maybe a few antics involving presents or Santa costumes. So, for the twelve days of Christmas here are 12(ish) episodes from that are fun little additions to the season.
This is just Christmas episodes of anime series. This is because we all know that the ultimate Christmas anime movie is Satoshi Kon’s Tokyo Godfathers which should be immediately watched if not seen.

Aggretsuko uses heavy metal as a coping mechanism for stress in a world of anthropomorphic animals. (120 characters) Darwin's Game blends survival game elements with psychopathic characters, resulting in a weird and frightening anime. (118 characters) Evangelion features giant robots with monstrous traits, normalizing the weirdness through its themes and character development. (126 characters)
When considering the weirdest anime on Netflix, a platform that is known for producing a lot of original series, many lesser-recognized anime come out of the woodwork to show their unique flair. Additionally, among the series not marked as Netflix Originals, high turnover is expected, with a lot of anime disappearing from the platform right when the hype has died down or a rewatch feels in store.
Furthermore, to categorize something as “weird” takes a delicate touch and an open mind. Although the word frequently carries negative connotations, in the modern sense, it is used to describe a feeling...

Netflix is home to some of the most popular anime for fans to stream, but there are a fair amount that fly under the radar. It's no secret that outside of Crunchyroll, and Hidive, Netflix is one of the best platforms for streaming anime. Not only does it feature some of the most popular titles throughout history at the press of a button including Cowboy Bebop and One Piece, but it also has given fans original shows and movies that have become absolute hits. Series like Aggretsuko and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners have put the service on the map for a place to get quality stories fans can't find anywhere else.
However, what some fans may not realize is that Netflix actually has some lesser-known titles hiding beneath its more popular entries that have gone completely unnoticed. For every popular show, there's a title that goes nearly unnoticed. They have their fans,...

Netflix offers hidden gems from around the world, like Tramps and I'm No Longer Here, that deserve more viewership. Aggretsuko and Bombay Rose are underrated animated Netflix originals that provide relatable and unique storytelling. The Call and Athena are thrilling films with intense premises that deserve recognition and a larger audience.
Netflix has a ton of popular movies and TV shows, but the streaming service also offers some hidden gems that deserve higher viewership. Netflix made a name for itself with trailblazing shows like Stranger Things and BoJack Horseman, which are huge hits in America, but for years, Netflix has also been targeting international markets with its original content. From producing their very own K-dramas and anime to extending distribution to non-English-language Oscar contenders like Roma, Hand of God, and All Quiet on the Western Front, Netflix features a diverse library of content from around the world, and not all...

So far, 2023 has been full of incredible anime. With plenty of new titles alongside new seasons for longtime favorites, the options for anime fans have been endless during the winter and spring seasons. However, as the year already reaches the halfway point, now is the perfect time to take a look at the best titles that the previous seasons had to offer.
Insomniacs After School
Insomniacs After School is one of the most unique and touching high school romance manga to come out in the past years, so fans were excited when it was announced that the series would be getting an anime adaptation. After the series was released in April, fans were not disappointed. The chemistry between the two characters is natural and undeniable, and the series is able to tackle deep topics about the pressure students feel without taking away from the romance and friendship at the story's core.

Warning: Contains Major Spoilers from Aggretsuko Season 5!The fifth season of the hit Netflix anime Aggretsuko has finally made a fan-favorite romance official. Aggretsuko is a series that has resonated with anime fans ever since its debut in 2018. The adorable red panda stuck in an accounting job has proven to be one of the most relatable anime characters as Aggretsuko's title character voices her frustrations and burnout through late-night death metal karaoke. Now, the series is coming to an end with goals to wrap up all loose ends. The biggest revelation though is how the series officially confirms Retsuko and Haida are a couple.
Aggretsuko season five has confirmed that between the fourth season finale and season premiere, Haida and Retsuko have finally gotten together. It's unknown how much time has passed, but based on Haida's current addiction to an online game, it can be assumed that it's only been about a month or two.

Aggretsuko is one of Netflix's most popular anime thanks to its satirical take on modern-day office life. The show's adorable protagonist is 25-year-old Retsuko, a worker bee at a trading company in Tokyo. Among other biographical details, like her astrological sign (Scorpio), blood type (A), and university major (accounting), Retsuko has been with her company for five years and is dissatisfied with her career and romantic prospects. There has to be something more to life than work, go home, phone, and sleep, right?

A recent survey found that one in five of Americans heavily rely on streaming services to help them cope with the trials and tribulations posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Netflix should be well aware of this fact, too, as their subscriber base has grown tremendously while other businesses – particularly those in the entertainment industry – are currently languishing.
Of course, periods of growth often precede times of rapid decline, and Netflix’s success has not been without its own complications. As more and more regions in the United States are reinstating quarantine, people consume content at faster rates than ever before. And in order to keep their subscribers satisfied, Netflix has tried their best to provide new material.
Today, for instance, August 27th, the streamer has added a total of 5 new movies and 1 new TV show, and the complete list is as follows:

1. “Hoops” (available August 21)
Why Should I Watch? Between “Big Mouth,” “F Is For Family,” and “The Midnight Gospel,” Netflix has a strong slate of adult animated comedies, and that’s without counting the service’s now ended but endlessly re-watchable episodes of “BoJack.” “Hoops,” starring and executive produced by Jake Johnson, looks to join those lofty ranks. Created by Ben Hoffman, “Hoops” follows Coach Ben Hopkins, a “pathetic, angry, foul-mouthed” high school basketball coach who’s convinced he can make it to the big leagues if he can whip his wayward squad into shape. His father, Barry (voiced by Rob Riggle), is a former professional basketball star, and he wants to help his son succeed… even though he knows he’s a long way from being the man he should be. Hard-r hijinks ensue, with Chris Miller and Phil Lord also on board as executive producers.

By the power of Grayskull, Kevin Smith has taken a metaphorical Power Sword to help bring a new animated series based on the He-Man. The Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director surprised fans at Power-Con in Anaheim on Sunday to share the news of his new Netflix anime series Masters of the Universe: Revelation, which will be an original story based on the world of Mattel’s classic ’80s era He-Man toy franchise.
Smith will serve as the executive producer and showrunner of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a limited series which focuses on the unresolved storylines of the classic series, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago.
“I’m Eternia-ly grateful to Mattel TV and Netflix for entrusting me with not only the secrets of Grayskull, but also their entire Universe,” said Smith. “In Revelation, we pick up right where the classic era...

Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva have co-created an anime series for Netflix that will be set in the world of Norse mythology.
Zack Snyder, the director of big DC projects like Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, now wants to head to Asgard - but not Marvel's version of Asgard.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder is teaming with his Justice League producing partner Jay Oliva to bring an anime based on Norse mythology to Netflix. Snyder will exec produce the series while Oliva will serve as showrunner. Stone Quarry Animation will produce alongside Snyder's wife, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller.
The only information available about the content of the series thus far is that it will be "set in the world of Norse mythology." So shake off those cobwebs, Baldr, Njörðr, Fenrir, and any other god not currently tied down by IP restrictions.

After spending years in distribution right hell, Netflix has finally cracked the code and the EVAs are set to take flight once again! Neon Genesis Evangelion is coming to Netflix!
Netflix has done a fabulous job of expanding its, once-lacking, anime library with titles like Seven Deadly Sins, Godzilla, Aggretsuko, and Castlevania, just to name a small few. With 2019 being just around the corner, the streaming giant has announced their lineup of anime shows releasing next year. Chief among them is one of the most beloved, influential, and controversial animes of all time, Neon Genesis Evangelion.
In Spring 2019, the legendary anime, Neon Genesis Evangelion returns after being in distribution hell for quite some time. For several years, the rights issue was so tricky, DVDs weren't even allowed to be printed in several countries. This streaming agreement has changed all of that, as all 26 Neon Genesis Evangelion episodes will be available...

Grab your eyedrops, because May is already overflowing with amazing TV shows, and the month isn’t done yet. As the networks and streaming services barrel towards that awards season cut-off date at the end of the month, they’ve been packing your schedule with week after week of primo programming.
It’s an embarrassment of riches, and many viewers are just the poor 1 percent (i.e. can’t hire people to watch the shows and create dramatic reenactment podcasts for listening to during your commute). So unless you can watch TV at twice the speed (which would make the voices sound funny), you’re fairly limited by time and, you know, wanting to get out and enjoy life and sunlight so you don’t get rickets.
But fear not. IndieWire’s dedicated TV team is here to make the process of deciding what to watch easier. Armed with advance screeners,...

So cute. So cuddly. And Retsuko’s death-metal vocals will shred your clothes and melt your face off. Netflix’s newest animated series is raging against the machine and looks adorable doing it.
Starring Retsuko, a red panda character developed from the same company that masterminded Hello Kitty, “Aggretsuko” (a portmanteau of “aggressive” and “Retsuko”) depicts the life of the 25-year-old accounting clerk by day who deals with workplace frustrations and injustices by growling death metal at her local karaoke joint at night. More than just escapist fare, Netflix’s anime series manages to fit in a remarkable amount of insight about society within 10 brief, 15-minute episodes.
The injustices seen at Retsuko’s workplace are typical: her overly demanding boss Director Ton who literally is a pig just practices his golf swing all day, the fawning brown-noser Tsunoda gets special treatment, and the office busybody doesn’t seem to have...
