In exchange for allowing filming in their home, the homeowners declined the normal location fee from the production company and instead asked the producers to donate the fee to pediatric brain tumor research at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. The producers agreed and have donated additional funds to this research beyond the typical location fee.
The series was originally set in a nameless place, then changed to London and then New York City. When M. Night Shyamalan joined the project, the setting was changed to Philadelphia.
Italian chef Marc Vetri was hired as a consultant for the scenes involving cooking and recipes, as main character Sean Turner is a consulting chef who creates recipes for restaurants.
This is Rupert Grint's first American role in a TV series.
