Kathleen Kennedy has a new plan for the future of Star Wars, and it might be exactly what the series needs. As a franchise, Star Wars is in a weird place right now as it is more omnipresent than ever before, but its future is unclear. Andor just concluded its final season with some of the best reviews of the franchise, and at the moment, two feature films are on the horizon: The Mandalorian & Grogu in May 2026 and Starfighter in May 2027. With a fanbase that always seems divided, what is the future of this beloved franchise?
During the BFI's special screening of the original print of Star Wars, Kathleen Kennedy made a surprise appearance to legitimize the event, so fans knew it was the real deal. Despite rumors of Kennedy retiring, the legendary producer has spoken about how she has no intentions of stepping down anytime soon. Kennedy talked...

When Disney Xd replaced Jetix back in 2009, fans were curious about what would be shown on this brand-new channel. Fortunately, Disney Xd was able to diversify away from The Disney Channel and offer audiences a plethora of interesting and unique content. Plus, these shows also appealed to international viewers, helping the franchise to take a break away from traditional American content.
However, now that Disney+ reigns supreme, a lot of audiences have forgotten about Disney Xd. As a result, a lot of die-hard animation fans are missing out on a ton of nostalgic shows that still manage to stand the test of time. Thus, instead of watching the same set of Disney shows over and over again, fans now have the chance to delve into a heap of hidden gems.

According to the rumors, 25 years after her first appearance in The Phantom Menace, Natalie Portman may return to Star Wars as Padme Amidala.
The Kristian Harloff Show recently claimed that the Black Swan actress is in talks with Lucasfilm about reprising the role in Ahsoka Season 2 and that showrunner Dave Filoni is keen to make it happen. According to Harloff, Ewan McGregor will also return to Star Wars in the Rosario Dawson-led Disney+ series.
Given that Ahsoka is set in the New Republic era, between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, it is long after Padme’s heartbreaking death during childbirth. Portman’s prequel co-star Hayden Christensen’s Force Ghost Anakin was an integral part of the first season, helping Ahsoka finish her training when she was stuck in the World Between Worlds. Against all odds, season 1 of the Disney+ series "Andor" ended up establishing a new standard for the entire "Star Wars" franchise to live up to upon its debut in September 2022. The prequel series to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" revealed how Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) first rose from a total nobody on a backwater planet to a reckless trafficker of illegal items to, ultimately, a spy in service of the nascent Rebel Alliance. Creator Tony Gilroy's darker, more mature take on the material instantly set it apart from the rest of the series, while the sheer efficiency of the well-written scripts left fans eager to see where this story would take them next. It's been a long, long wait for its next season, but that patience is finally about to pay off.

“She was always really good about bringing together people who shared her same passions,” says Elissa Alcala of the late “Ahsoka” costume designer Shawna Trpcic who passed away in 2023. Alcala served as assistant costume designer on the Disney+ series, and joined costume supervisor Devon Patterson to discuss their latest Emmy nomination and the lasting impact of their late collaborator. Watch the exclusive video interview above.
“Ahsoka” continues the adventures of the titular Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) in live action after the animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars: Rebels” charted her earlier exploits. Star Wars animation often surpasses live-action in storytelling, with top-rated episodes belonging to animated shows on IMDb. Animated projects like The Clone Wars and Rebels introduce fascinating characters and explore the Force in ways live-action does not. Despite top-quality storytelling in animated shows, they are often overlooked in favor of live-action projects by the general audience.
Animated projects have been a major part of Star Wars since 2008, and I am tired of them being overlooked. Despite some earlier efforts that fell flat, Star Wars animation came to life with 2008's Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The timeline of The Clone Wars placed it between the latter two installments of the prequel trilogy, and while I admittedly did not watch the show until the late 2010s, it kickstarted an important phase of Star Wars stories being told via animation.
Upcoming Star Wars TV shows will likely continue reflecting this importance, with...

Dee Bradley Baker wants to see what happened to the clones after The Bad Batch - including Rex, Gregor, Echo, Wolffe, and Cody. Like many fans, Baker believes there is still a compelling untold story about the clones that needs to be explored. Lucasfilm may have said the Clone Wars era is over, but with a new Star Wars animation in the works, the story of the clones may not be finished yet.
Dee Bradley Baker, best known for voicing the clones in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, knows just what story he'd like to see next. There's a sense in which Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 was the end of George Lucas' legacy, because Clone Force 99 was one of his last ideas before selling Lucasfilm to Disney. That doesn't mean the story of the clones is over, though, as...

It looks like Freddie Prinze Jr.'s time in the Star Wars galaxy is over. The voice actor for Kanan Jarrus recently offered up a pretty good reason as to why he has no interest in returning to the beloved sci-fi franchise.
During an interview with Screen Rant, Prinze explained how he believes Kanan gets diluted "a little bit" every time he gets brought back. "I feel like every time Kanan gets put out there, since the cartoon, it dilutes the character a little bit. I wasn't even crazy about doing the voiceover in the last movie, and it took a couple of phone calls to convince me to do so. I didn't think Kanan was that powerful to be a Force ghost that would communicate from the past," the actor said. "So, no, my answer is no. I wouldn't do Star Wars, and I wouldn't want to play a different character.

Freddie Prinze Jr. was initially hesitant about voicing Kanan Jarrus again in The Rise of Skywalker, as he thought it would dilute the character. Prinze Jr. does not plan to return to Star Wars, as he also stated that he doesn't want to play another character besides Kanan. Despite Prinze Jr.'s decision, Kanan Jarrus continues to have a lasting impact on the Star Wars galaxy.

Ahsoka Tano's transition to live-action has brought changes that differentiate her from the animated version, showcasing a more serious and stoic character. Rosario Dawson's portrayal of an older, wiser Ahsoka has attracted new fans while still honoring the character's unwavering determination. While some fans miss Ashley Eckstein's performance, Ahsoka's move to live-action has legitimized her character's prominence in the Star Wars franchise.
Transitioning from animation to live-action Star Wars is just one of Ahsoka Tano's many great feats. After her introduction in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Ahsoka's ascension from annoying Padawan to one of the franchise's best characters has become an endearing arc for fans. Her determination matches her kindness and desire always to do the right thing, especially if it's difficult. Ashley Eckstein's Clone Wars and Rebels performances captured our hearts and invigorated spirits. That said, I understand why her transition to live-action has been difficult for some fans.

In Gareth Edwards' 2016 film "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," a group of scrappy Rebels defy orders from their superiors to infiltrate an Imperial stronghold and steal the blueprints for the Empire's newest superweapon, a planet-killing, moon-sized laser called the Death Star. It's no surprise that they will be successful, as the plans they steal are put to good use in the 1977 film "Star Wars." Indeed, the events of "Rogue One" end at the exact moment "Star Wars" picks up, leaving nothing to the imagination. Sadly, the characters of "Rogue One" all die in their mission, a fact that all "Star Wars" fans kind of knew going in.
The villain of "Rogue One" is an Imperial weapons developer named Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) who has overseen the design and construction of the Death Star. Like most of the Imperial characters throughout the "Star Wars" franchise, Krennic is stressed, angry, and unhappy.

Helldivers 2 continues to be a go-to shooter for players who want a battle against alien threats. However, there is a chance fights become repetitive and tiresome when a certain level of mastery against such enemies as Terminids and Automatons is reached.
The community comes in to save the day once again, with a proposition of a Human faction. While Helldivers 2 is missing Illuminate as another enemy faction, fans believe the new faction can breathe fresh life into the whole experience.
Fan theories bring Human Rebels to Galactic battles Fan theory proposes a fight against human enemies in Helldivers 2.
Like many times before, fans aren’t shy to speculate on Helldivers 2 additions, changes, and improvements. One fan has posed the idea of bringing a faction of Seaf defectors instead of the Illuminate faction from the original Helldivers.
Would a faction of traitors be a good idea?

After slapping away a hand he thought belonged to a rival’s fan, Auburn basketballer Johni Broome realized he had to get right with God — aka actor Morgan Freeman, who memorably played the deity in the film Bruce Almighty.
Broome tried to save a ball from going out of bounds in the second half of Auburn’s game against Ole Miss when someone in the front row grabbed his jersey.
Thinking it was an Ole Miss fan trying to rattle him, Broome brushed the person’s arm away.
Broome turned and quickly realized it was Freeman, the Academy Award-winning actor who is a big Mississippi fan and attends many Rebels games.
“I kind of got his hand off,” Broome later told reporters. “I saw who it was and I’m a big movie guy. I probably watched one of his movies on the plane coming here.

Grand Admiral Thrawn is poised to be the next big villain in the "Star Wars" franchise. The classic character created by author Timothy Zahn in the '90s finally made his live-action debut last year in the first season of "Ahsoka." But that was just the beginning. The end of the season set up Thrawn as a major threat who will undoubtedly return in the show's second season, if not on the big screen as well in the coming years (more on that in a moment). Now, Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni has shed some light on what might be in store for Thrawn in the future. Or, more specifically, who might be in store for the blue-skinned expert tactician.
Filoni, who is the main creative force behind "Ahoska" as well as animated shows like "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels," recently spoke with Empire about Thrawn's future.

Ahsoka Tano's journey mirrors that of Gandalf the White in "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers," as she emerges stronger and more enlightened after surviving her emotional duel with Darth Vader. Similar to Kanan Jarrus in "Star Wars Rebels," Ahsoka must attain a new level and take on the role of a true Jedi Master in order for her transformation into Ahsoka the White to be complete. While the show is named after Ahsoka, the real hero of the story may be Sabine Wren, who will rise to demonstrate her role as the next generation's hero in the Mandalorian storytelling era, potentially playing a vital role in the conflict on Mandalore.

It seems Paramount and Nickelodeon have got a fever, and the only prescription is more "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Ahead of the August 2, 2023 theatrical release date of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem," Variety reports that a sequel is already in development. This isn't surprising, considering the film ends with a big tease, and considering that it is one of the best animated movies of the year. Director Jeff Rowe and the team at Mikros Animation deliver a visually stunning film that delivers rebellious teen attitude, while a script by Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, as well as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, reinvents the iconic characters by focusing on them being actual teens discovering their place in the world.
Perhaps more surprisingly (albeit equally as inevitable) is the news that a TV spin-off of "Mutant Mayhem" is now in development for Paramount+, titled "Tales of The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Ahsoka, the upcoming Disney+ series, has high demand and is set to be a success, but it has yet to surpass the popularity of The Mandalorian. When Ashley Eckstein debuted as the voice of Ahsoka Tano in Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, she found herself in the unexpected storm of Star Wars fandom backlash. Her revelation during the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo conveyed the raw emotion that came with witnessing vehement reactions against her character per Popverse.
The fervor and intensity of fandom, especially one as legendary as Star Wars, can often swing between extreme adoration and harsh criticism. A recent example was when The Mandalorian began concentrating more on the character Bo-Katan Kryze, resulting in a cacophony of fan outcry. Similarly, Moses Ingram's portrayal as Inquisitor Reva faced a barrage of negativity leading to an alarming number of negative reviews for Disney+'s Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Eckstein's emotional journey began when she heard the initial criticism against her character Ahsoka Tano. Recollecting those moments, she expressed how disheartened she felt, admitting that she once "sobbed into [her] cheesecake.

One of the strongest things about the Star Wars universe is that characters can be recycled and used in other shows and movies in the franchise, and none have made more appearances in new titles than those from the original trilogy. Many characters have returned in their own shows or movies, like Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story or Princess Leia in Star Wars Rebels. However, in terms of the Star Wars timeline, the number of characters returning after the events of the original trilogy have concluded is far less.
While some characters like Cassian Andor have received their own spin-off shows on Disney+, original trilogy characters aren’t getting the same treatment. A big reason this is happening is because of when the original trilogy was filmed. Actors have aged over 40 years since kicking of the franchise in 1977, requiring CGI and deepfakes to incorporate them in new projects.

Everyone's infatuated with Baby Yoda, aka Grogu, the tiny alien creature who's being raised by "The Mandalorian"'s title hero, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). And that includes the toddler daughter of Katee Sackhoff, who plays Bo-Katan on the show (and in the "Clone Wars" and "Rebels" animated series). Sackhoff talks to Popsugar about her daughter's over-the-top love of Grogu, working with Pascal, and Bo-Katan's journey in season three.
Sackhoff shares 15-month-old Ginevra Grace with her husband, Robin Gadsby. She's a little young to start her official Star Wars viewing journey, but Sackhoff plans to show her the very first movie when she can. "But at the same time, I think she's going to watch this show. She's already obsessed with Baby Yoda," she explains. "She has a little Star Wars pop-up book because I was like, 'Well, I should start her.' So she flips through the card book, and she loves it.

The campaign to get Ahsoka Tano in live-action has reached fever pitch of late. Following The Clone Wars heroine making a vocal cameo in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with voice actress Ashley Eckstein reprising her role, fans are calling for this first gig in the movies to lead to a major part in future live-action Star Wars media. And one actress who’s always had her eye on playing the character is once again making it known that she’s available.
To begin with, Emergency Awesome’s Charlie Schneider pointed out on Twitter that Ahsoka would be in her 40s during the events of Disney Plus’ The Mandalorian, the same age as Rosario Dawson is now. The actress herself then retweeted the post and made clear that she definitely agrees and wants fans to pester Lucasfilm on her behalf. “Tell ’em!” the Luke Cage and Zombieland: Double Tap star wrote,...

(This article describes parts of the ending of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.” So, yes, that means major spoilers are ahead.)
There’s a lot of baggage that comes with trying to make a movie that serves as a climax of a nine-movie saga, and so “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” had a lot of obligations to fulfill. And we figured that one of those obligations that it would fulfill was to feature some cameos from past characters in the franchise. And at the end of the movie we were delivered a bulk order of cameos, including some from the animated TV series “Rebels” and “Clone Wars.”
So in the climactic battle, Rey’s been knocked flat on her back, Palpatine having sucked the life force or something out of her and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Earlier, Palpatine had bragged that the spirits of all the Sith lords...

Star Wars Rebels wrapped up after four acclaimed seasons back in early 2018, but it’s possible that the story could be continued in a new show on Disney Plus. Similar to how the streaming service is bringing back Rebels‘ predecessor The Clone Wars for a seventh season this year, word is now circulating that there are plans afoot to create a sequel series to Rebels that will follow what happens next for at least two of its characters.
YouTube channel First Order Transmissions reports that the follow-up series is in active development and is set to arrive on Disney Plus as soon as fall 2020. In terms of story details, the Rebels sequel will star Ahsoka Tano, the former Jedi Padawan who debuted in Clone Wars, and Mandalorian heroine Sabine Wren. The Mandalorian season 1 finale introduced a major artifact from Star Wars lore into the show, which created a way for an iconic villain to return in the second season of the Disney Plus series. As fans will know, this artifact is the Darksaber, which was previously wielded by Darth Maul in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series. So, does this mean Maul could return in the next run? Maybe, and both the character’s physical performer and voice actor might just be teasing it.
First of all, Ray Park – who first embodied the Sith apprentice in The Phantom Menace – shared a snap of himself in full Maul get-up on Instagram. ‘”Meet me on Dathomir” Sith Life!’ reads his caption, referencing the villain’s words to Qi’Ra in his shocking cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

‘Star Wars’ Writer Chris Terrio on Rey’s Parentage, the Big Villain, and That Final Scene — Spoilers
[Editor’s note: The following post contains extensive spoilers for “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”]
It all ends here. After nine films and over four decades, the Skywalker Saga has come to a close with J.J. Abrams’ second “Star Wars” outing, “The Rise of Skywalker.” The final film in the newest trilogy doesn’t just conclude (for now) the adventures of Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), Finn (John Boyega), and Poe (Oscar Isaac), it also shuts the door on a beloved franchise that first kicked off with 1977’s revelatory “A New Hope.”
For a final film, “The Rise of Skywalker” is packed with far more than just loose-end tying-up, rolling out a number of new characters and plots to push through before a final, genuinely tearjerking scene. By now, audiences surely know this much: that the film includes the return of a major villain, that it puts to bed years of speculation about Rey’s parentage, and it resets much of what...

The Rise of Skywalker finally hit theaters over the weekend and it brought with it much to discuss. Love it or hate it, that is hard to deny. As with any movie in a major franchise such as this, there were plenty of reveals, big moments and, in this case, character deaths to digest. Though, some were a bit more obvious than others. There is one major death that was seemingly confirmed in the movie, but in a roundabout way that may have eluded some.
Warning: major spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Read on at your own risk. During the movie's climax, Rey has an encounter with many Jedi of the past, their voices anyway, before she manages to defeat Palpatine. Amongst these voices Rey hears is that of Ahsoka Tano, voiced by Ashley Eckstein, the same actress who plays the character in The Clone Wars and Rebels.

The climax of Star Wars: The Last Jedi brought the moment fans had spent two movies and a quarter of a century waiting to see: Luke Skywalker as an all-powerful Jedi master. The appearance was revealed as a Force Projection, the energy expenditure of which resulted in his death. And how he achieved it and why it killed him has now been officially explained.
In the climax, Luke faces down Kylo Ren and the might of the First Order, knowing that such a challenge would be impossible for Darth Emo and his whining petulance to resist, thus buying time for the Resistance to escape and giving rise to the now-iconic image of him flicking away an imaginary speck of dust from his shoulder in a perfect display of abject contempt for his enemies. At long last, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters. This serves as not just the finale to the sequel trilogy, but the end of the Skywalker saga as we know it. As audiences begin to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker for themselves, we're beginning to understand that there is a great disturbance in the Force. Critics were very divided on what director J.J. Abrams has done with Episode IX, which serves as the finale of the Skywalker saga. However, based on the early reactions to The Rise of Skywalker, it seems like general moviegoers are enjoying it quite a bit, which raises questions about the future of the Star Wars franchise.

The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters and fans can finally see how J.J. Abrams brought an end to the sequel trilogy. The director called on some extra help for Rey, Finn, Chewbacca, Poe, and the rest of the usual suspects. J.J. Abrams, going against the grain a bit, has hinted that a fan-favorite Clone Wars character could be making an appearance in The Rise of Skywalker. Abrams has historically been very tight-lipped with his projects and doesn't like to reveal too much and would rather let moviegoers experience things for themselves. However, he may have let something very significant slip recently.
Warning: possible spoilers ahead for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Granted, nothing has been confirmed yet, but if this little hint provided by J.J. Abrams, the director and co-writer of the movie, turns out to be true, this is quite the reveal. That aside, Abrams was recently doing an interview and asked the interviewer who their favorite Star Wars character is. The interviewer responded by saying Ahsoka Tano, who fans will know from The Clone Wars and Rebels animated shows. That's when Abrams dropped a pretty big hint.

J.J. Abrams is ready for Emperor Palpatine's return in Star Wars 9. The director says the villain's absence from the sequel trilogy would have been "weird." Star Wars fans were blown away to hear that iconic cackle at the end of the first trailer for the final installment in the Skywalker Saga. We all saw Return of the Jedi and witnessed Palpatine get thrown down the Death Star's reactor by Darth Vader. How did Abrams find a way to bring him back?
Obviously, J.J. Abrams isn't going to explain how he brought back Emperor Palpatine for The Rise of Skywalker. "Yes, Palpatine is in this movie. I don't want to talk about what that is and how," says Abrams, as he notes that he wants fans to be able to experience the movie without spoilers. However, he had quite a lot to say about why he brought the villain back.
