No matter what, the first rule of writing is to try to keep a film as historically accurate as possible, which can allow you to create situations around real events.
This movie just destroys all its credibility 4 minutes in with female legionnaires. I understand the current and understandable equality movements and fully support them, but you cannot impose modern values into a movie that takes place two thousand years ago. There were no women serving in any fighting capacity in the Roman Legion, PERIOD.
Secondly the acting is very wooden and the costumes and armor look like they were just made as they actually gleam. The special effects were also quite bad as was the writing. Due to the low budget they went for shaky cams in the battle scenes to make you so dizzy that you couldn't make out what was going on.
As I write this review over half the calculated ratings for this movie are 9's and 10's. The cast and crew must have quite a few friends is all I can say.
Low budget doesn't always mean a bad movie, but it does in this case.
Not Recommended.

When you look at the DVDs/Blu Ray for sale in Asda, Sainsbury, Tesco entertainment department, you might glance down at the lower shelves and see some obscure unknown title in the £3-7 range and think nahhhh I will wait for it to turn up on Movies4Men 2. This was a rare occasion to see one of those type of releases on a cinema screen.
The opening tells us that many myths are based on fact, and this story relates a small troupe of soldiers looking for missing soldiers past Hadrian Wall. The story could have been handled better, but the director and scriptwriter had no idea how to write dialogue and how to get the unknown cast to deliver the words in a credible style. The cast is too small and all we is them in a line walking in woods across the screen, or in a pack in close up in virtual darkness.
By the time the final revelations came, it was a case of oh ok, we must be near the end. The only plus point was vomit in beards. Wait for it premiere on a cable station instead of traipsing to the cinema, or purchasing the DVD.

Right, well I had expected more from this movie from writers Stuart Brennan and George McCluskey. A lot, lot more.
First I must say that the movie does have a good production quality to it, and they definitely had some nice costumes and props, which were quite nice. The acting in the movie was also quite adequate. But this is where the good things end.
Then let's move on to the less good things - or the bad things. Which was, essentially, the rest of the movie. The storyline was generic and mundane, which was a shame, because it had potential. But director Stuart Brennan didn't make proper use of what was readily available. And the movie was just a whole bunch of showing nothing more than a bunch of English-talking people pretending to be Romans, walking around (mostly in the dark) and being chased by rarely-seen adversaries.
And when you finally did get to see these man-wolves - or werewolves - it was just so anti-climatic that I was good and ready to get up and turn off the movie. Man, talk about being a lousy treat for the audience that stuck with this ordeal of a movie. It was such a slap to the face with a cold, dead fish.
The concept of Roman soldiers being tracked by werewolves actually was interesting, but it was just slaughtered - pardon the pun - at the hands of the director. So much potential thrown straight down the drain.
I am rating "Wolf" a mere three out of ten stars, solely because of the costumes, some fair enough acting performances and the props. The rest of the movie was just not worth the time, money or effort. This is not a movie that I will be watching a second time, nor is it a movie that I will ever recommend anyone to waste their time or money on.

Let's start with the positives: there was a very clear shot of the moon - a crisp, clear image, the score had musical instruments in it and the beards looked real. It's not very long.
Other than that....every thing about this was just plain bad. Awful. If an infinite number of monkeys etc could blah blah Shakespeare, one monkey with half a crayon and a piece of cardboard and a hangover would be embarrassed to have written this. And the director may not even have been an animal. A houseplant, perhaps? Each actor said their monkey-written lines in turn, then a pause, then the next actor says something daft. This wasn't even so bad it's quite funny. I can't say anymore because writing this is making me remember the film which is making me feel tired and cold inside.
If you're at home and looking for a way to pass some time and the choice is this or unblocking a septic tank with your bare hands, good luck and wear safety glasses...

Firstly, I have to confess that I got so fed up with this film that I left after 1hr, so if anything good happens beyond the 60min point then, dang it, I missed it!! But I based on what I DID see it's pretty unlikely.
The premise of a Werewolf in Roman Briton was very appealing. Indeed, the legend of the lycanthrope is referenced in Gaius Petronius Arbiter's 'Satyricon' written in AD60 - so there is even some historical relevance. But that's where the interesting stuff ends.
The acting is wooden, the costumes are too bright and shiny and the "hey, my buddy just bought a drone, let's use that for every shot" cinematography was a real drag. Sadly, it wasn't even bad enough to be charming. The only positive thing I can say is that some of the lighting was dramatic. As for everything else, Poorly executes families tropes from a bygone era.

85 minites of this utter dross tested my patience! Zero acting, talking head script and special effects makeup that kids wouldn't use on their Halloween costumes. Avold in the cinema, dvd or the streaming platforms. Save the 85 mintites for something else - bathing the dog, cleaning the toilet , spending time with the in- laws, anything but wasting it on this dross.

Wolf can be respected as a movie that has been made and put out in cinemas...and also inspirational in the fact that if this movie can get made, anyone can do it.
Wolf feels exactly like the too ambitious movie project a student would make. Brilliant drone shots escorted by a horrible expositional script that feels very much shot around the idea but without the budget or vision to execute the screenplay.
The casting really does feel amateur and student-like, down to the director/writer/producer and the token old actor and recast characters.
It's a shame, Wolf could have been more with stupid cheesy werewolf effects or with microphones that worked. Instead the film is poorly edited, sounds amateur, and effectively is an 85 minute movie that feels like a 180 minute one.

Oh Dear.
Start with the good bits. Costumes and make up were fine. Location : sunny and snowy Scotland. Acting wasn't bad.
Now for the bad bits. The script was bereft of polish and drafts. The plot left a lot to be desired. Special effects for the monster(s) lacking, perhaps a lack of budget was the culprit. The fangs were at best amateurish or cheap - being kind.
Cinematography was acceptable. However some parts could have used some rudimentary lighting assistance in the shape of some reflectors to counteract the shadowing of the eyes which any film student worth their salt would have noticed immediately. Cardinal sin - you have to see the actors faces in particular their eyes. it's no use if their eyes are in blackness or shadow.
Lack of variety of wide angle shots showing the characters, except for the aerial drone or Arriflex shots. Didn't give the audience a sense of varied perspective.
Watch, Wolfen, An American Werewolf in London, The Company of Wolves, Silver Bullet or Ginger Snaps instead of this garbage.
In short avoid.
Rating withheld for reasons of the ability to rate zero out of ten.

The greatest film I have ever seen,SORRY that was a joke,me and my girlfriend when to see this today and my girlfriend was sleeping intermittently then she walked out near the end,I was laughing at the end as it's so bad, people walking out saying to each other what a load of sh##,at least I used my Cineworld card to watch this rather than pay cash,I don't know how this film was even made,I can't imagine anyone enjoying this,1 out of 10 as it made me laugh towards the end.
I've never left a review on here before, however I'd also never left a film early until now. Thankfully I have a cinema membership so I didn't pay entry for this otherwise i would have been looking for a refund or transfer to another film. Poor acting, script, pace, camera work, this film had me redeeming qualities for me.

Wolf: 150 AD, a troop of Romans are north of Hadrian's Wall, searching for four peace envoys who had been sent to the King of the Picts, offering him assistance as a plague had broken out. The Legionnaires are attacked by a rogue band of Picts but manage to defeat them. A far stranger attack takes place however and two of the Romans are savagely slaughtered. Fast moving creatures streak past and lunge at the Legionnaires as they form an orb. It is difficult to wound the attackers. Under constant attack the Romans retreat towards Hadrian's Wall.
A low budget film which makes the most of it's forest setting. Mist runs through the primeval forest restricting visibility by day, inspiring a sense of existential terror even more so at night as dark shapes strike. Minimal effects concentrating on fangs and claws on the transformed creatures which are mostly fleetingly glimpsed. The acting is amateurish at times but good portrayals of Roman NCOs by Stuart Brennan and Mark Paul Wake who reminisce through flashbacks about previous battles. Also powerful female roles with Victoria Morrison, Adana Oji and Jennifer Jones as scouts and warriors. The screenplay is a bit disjointed but with some work the narrative structure could have been more convincing. This was obviously a labour of love for Stuart Brennan who directed, wrote, produced and acted in the film.
A watchable horror film with an interesting setting. 6/10.

I have been watching films now for 40 plus years and I can honestly say that this is the worst film I have ever seen. Can't really add to what others have said except it makes Cubby Brown's UFO look like Citizen Kane.

Sometimes when you watch a movie, you start to think about what the director and writers thought at the start thought the finished product would be like. Honestly, they should have thought about it and left it at that.
Poor script, poor acting, very few moments of historical correctness and gone overboard with political correctness. I mean, a female legionairre? I'm all for having tough women in movies, but a female legionairre simply wouldn't have happened, Romans wouldn't even have considered it. I get this is fantasy, but it's based on reality. Then they should at least get the historical foundation right, same goes for some of the equipment. It's not that hard to find someone who actually has knowledge about the Roman period and army. It just shows that the director and writers didn't even take their own movie serious, how is an audience supposed to be seriously entertained by it then?
My advice would be to skip this and find yourself a movie of at least some quality to entertain yourself.

This is bad- really. I feel awkward just trying to describe how terrible it really is. I feel sorry for the actors.
Just don't bother.

Terrible acting, terrible script and terrible filming. Poor use of cinematography, no build up in tension, laughable, we literally laughed out at how bad it was.
Walked out after 30 minutes
I really wanted to give this movie a chance, really... But when I saw a black woman beeing a full plated Roman soldier, I gave up... Where this world is goin to? Black Margaret of Anjou, black Heimdahl, black Achilles. I'm begging you people, STOP! I really don't mind black Nick Fury, black Kingpin, black this-guy-from-The-Legend (all fictional characters) but you have no idea, how much you are killing the movie, by altering historical facts so much!
I enjoyed this! Had trouble finding it on imdb cuz its labeled on tubi as being from 2022. Had to search by director. Hadn't read any reviews or seen the imdb number score before watching. And I actually loved it! While searching for it on imdb to leave my score I was thinking that I need to find it on DVD to add to my collection. Had just finished watching 2 other tubi werewolf films... 1st one is unmentionable. 2nd one I own on DVD and have watched probably 15 times now... The Wolf of Snow Hollow 2020! Had to watch that as a pallette cleanser.
Lol. This was my third werewolf movie of the day turned into night. I loved it! As is! Change nothing! I gave it 9 out of 10! Thank You!

Saw the poster for this and my cinema buddy and I decided, why not there's nothing else on. Wish I'd just stayed in bed............
This is basically the dog soldiers script ripped off and now Roman soldiers doing the hunters being hunted thing.
The acting is terrible, the special effects (and I use the phrase very woefully) are appalling. The weapon play is disastrous and like another review said the best part of the movie is the moon at the start and the end credits. I wasn't sticking around to see if there were any post credit scenes. Sincerely this is 1 1/2 hours of my precious life I and whoever watches this can never get back.
I was very pleasantly surprised! Wolf has everything from great fight sequences to great costumes and amazing tension building! It's worth a see, you won't regret it!

I could only manage about 30mins of this tripe. Awful acting and script, although some of the cinematography was quite good.
If anyone can fill me in as to the ending (if anyone actually stayed to the end?).
