I pulled this from Rotten Tomatoes because I agree...
When the edgiest thing about your teen sex comedy is the title, the best you can offer in praise is "that's a nice first effort."

Decently acted and writtten movie about nerdy girl learning how to interact with others, losing her virginity, and finding a boyfriend. Not really a comedy, but not too serious either. Better than I was expecting.
This movie doesn't have that much dept, but it does write in quite a few smaller twists with them, giving true depth to the superficial lead which still feels superficial as the dark isn't that dark and the light isn't really that light. What it does hit is that feel good tone that "itll be allright".
The cinematography is decent enough, sound and music ok, the cast is well above anticipated even though the dialogue is stiff it leans into it which adds to the movie rather than detract. It's very ungraphical for the subject and more in respects to the inner hesitations about maturing. For a low budget movie this is high production values and possibly perfect for girls growing up to feel normal as they do so.
Note, this is in no way an educational movie about the more graphical parts of sex or having an active sexlife but the emotions for a akward, high achieving girl deciding to have sex. Possibly slightly on the autistic spectrum.
"Banging Lanie" is just the type of movie we need right now. It is a lighthearted coming of age movie about a girl (the title character Lanie) who decides she wants to lose her virginity to the boy of her dreams.
The movie is equal parts fun and awkward and reminds me of the light hearted coming of age romantic comedies we used to get in the 90s. If you are looking to relax and check out an enjoyable movie, I recommend giving this a chance.

Allison Powell performs a triple threat here, writing/directing and acting playing the lead as the socially awkward but highly intelligent teen Lanie, who is about to explore the brave new world of sexual teen awakening. Unlike the typical teen comedies where everything is played strictly for laughs. Banging Lanie is much more honest and realistic than perhaps the title suggests and the underlying authenticity is what separates it from the pack providing a much richer story that is well worth anyones time. Great film.
I these unique spins on rom com stories. I was entertained watching this and was drawn into Allison Powell's performance in the lead, who interestingly is also the director of the film (not an easy feat to pull off well)! A refreshing point of view from Lanie on high school love and sex issues in a coming of age time of life. The cinematography was well done too and captured the mood of the scenes with the framing and lighting
I'm not a big rom-com sort of guy but... I have to say. I really enjoyed this film, a lot!! I loved the female lead actress. She was so good! It was refreshing to get a female viewpoint in managing sexuality. I liked the story and the director did a terrific job in telling the story along with maintaining a good pace. I never found myself drifting off or wanting to get a snack in the kitchen. So a thumbs up from me on the one.

Banging Lanie is thematically similar to films like Booksmart or Ghostworld, but has its own vision. Allison Powell's naturalistic direction really allows you to take your time and get to know these characters. And her performance as the quirky, driven and socially awkward Lanie never takes a wrong step. Like-able characters, a well placed pop music score, and funny, clever writing make for a film that's well worth your time.

I was pleasantly impressed with this indie flick, which fulfills the tropes you want to see in a high school rom com, and then goes beyond. The depth of the film sets it apart, exploring challenging territory in a mature manner while still keeping things light. The film is a lot of fun, and the characters enjoyable and relatable. Strong praise for Allison Powell who shines as the star, the writer and the director.
Allison Powell wears a lot of hats in this her first feature length movie - writer, director, STAR, and by the resulting fun had by all seems to handle everything with ease. Not the genre I would normally gravitate to, but this rom com kept my interest start to finish with good performances and more depth than I had expected. Thumbs up!

It´s a very bold and cool feature debut for Allison Powell. Well done for an actor, writer, producer and a director. A funny romantic comedy for the younger generation.
The story is about Lanie Burroughs, a young women who has found the guy she want´s to loose her virginity to. Hence resulting in a lot of awkward moments as she and the story develops.
I recommend this movie to young directors as well as people that are into the genre.

So often in coming of age rom-coms, we get the male perspective. I loved a female point of view for a change. Especially that of a young woman who takes charge of her own sexual path. Funny, charming, well done. This film was just an all around treat!

Bangie Lanie is a charming indie rom-com. Honestly the title made me chuckle so I gave it a watch. The film reminds of Booksmart, which I loved, and I think others who liked it will also enjoy Banging Lanie. The film's lead actress, who I believe is also the director, gave a very good performance as an awkward teen trying to navigate her sexuality. These types of coming of age movies have always been a personal favorite of mine and I love seeing more of them told from a young woman's perspective.
Banging Lanie is a coming a age quirky comedy that deals with a female's virginity. There are many characters that add heft to the movie as the story follows Lanie's journey as she takes charge of her sexualty.
