Carrie says that she hopes that Bree doesn't get a mission call to serve in Eastern Europe, because "we don't want another Saratov situation." The inside joke here is that writer/director Maclain Nelson also portrayed one of two missionaries in The Saratov Approach (2013) who were kidnapped and held for ransom in the Russian city in 1998.
A poster for the TV show Show Offs (2019) can be seen hanging in Bree's room, which features many of the same actors who appear in this movie.
The surfer whom Bree (Clare Niederpruem) finds so repulsive, just before we meet Thys, is played by Maclain Nelson, Niederpruem's real-life husband and writer/director of this film.
