My Glory Was I Had Such Friends is not coming to Apple TV+ after all. The streaming service has dropped its plans for the series following the exit of actress Jennifer Garner. She was set to star in the series which was picked up in 2018. The project would have reunited Garner with director/producer/writer J.J. Abrams. The pair worked together on the TV series Alias.
The following was revealed about the decision to drop the series:
According to sources, Garner exited My Glory Was I Had Such Friends for scheduling reasons. The show has taken quite awhile to get off the ground, and the Alias alumna is currently filming another limited series, The Last Thing He Told Me, an adaptation of Laura Dave’s bestselling novel, which is produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine.

Bad Robot has certainly had a run of, well, bad luck lately. The J. J. Abrams and Katie McGrath-led production label only just saw its ambitious sci-fi fantasy series "Demimonde" scrapped at HBO Max back in June 2022. This came a mere ten months after the streamer turned down Bad Robot's proposed prequel series to "The Shining," a show that has since failed to find a new home.
More recently, the company's 250 million deal with WarnerMedia has been scrutinized by the penny-pinching bosses at the newly-formed Warner Bros. Discovery, given that Bad Robot has yet to actually deliver any of the high-profile films or TV series it's started working on since the agreement was finalized in 2019. If all that wasn't enough, Apple TV+ has also elected to cancel Bad Robot's limited series "My Glory Was I Had Such Friends" after giving it a straight-to-series order in 2018.

This marks the first new Bad Robot–produced television projects for HBO Max under the exclusive, wide-ranging content collaboration partnership formed by Bad Robot with HBO Max parent company WarnerMedia in fall 2019.
The first series, Duster, is to be co-written by J.J. Abrams & Latoya Morgan.

Last year the Overlook Hotel made its return to the big screen in Mike Flanagan's adaptation of Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, and now Warner Bros. is teaming up with Bad Robot to bring the haunted hotel to life on the small screen, as the streaming service HBO Max has given a production commitment to Overlook, a new series inspired by Stephen King's The Shining.

The show reunites the Castle Rock team of J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot, Stephen King, and Wbtv, which is fitting, because Overlook sounds like it could be in the same creative vein of the Castle Rock Hulu series, as it looks to expand upon...

Clive Owen is joining Julianne Moore in “Lisey’s Story,” the upcoming Apple+ limited series from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams.
Based on King’s best-selling novel from 2006, Apple gave the project an eight-episode order in April.

Owen is set to play Lisey’s husband, Scott Landon.
“Lisey’s Story” will be Moore’s first starring TV series gig. The actress previously starred on HBO’s film “Game Change” as former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, and had a recurring role on “30 Rock.”

For the next five years, J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot is going to be developing several TV, film, game, and digital content for Warner Media. The two just closed a megadeal with each other that will run through 2024 and I’m sure there are going to be a lot of cool and exciting projects to come out of the partnership.
From here on out Abrams and Bad Robot will now develop original theatrical film projects for the divisions of the Warner Bros. Pictures Group, including Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema.
Bad Robot will also continue working on TV projects on various platforms for the company “including dramas and comedies, long-form/event series, digital, and more, as the production company has developed material for Warner Bros. TV for many years.”
Bad Robots’ current series include Westworld, Lovecraft, Demimonde for WarnerMedia’s HBO, as well as They Both Die at the End.

It’s done! JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot have closed a five-year deal for him to keep his TV business and move his film business under the WarnerMedia umbrella. The wide-ranging pact, which runs through 2024, also includes games and digital content.
The JJ Abrams Sweepstakes started last fall, with a number of media congloms vying for his services in an all-encompassing deal expected to reach as much as $500 million. By June, WarnerMedia emerged as the frontrunner thanks largely to the shorthand Abrams had developed with the Warner Bros TV team over the past 13 years, and a massive financial commitment by parent WarnerMedia. It took a couple of more months to seal the deal, largely over intricacies involving ending Abrams’ Paramount Pictures movie pact. Under his exit agreement, Bad Robot will honor its existing Paramount obligations.

WarnerMedia is closing in on a deal with JJ Abrams‘ Bad Robot production company that could be worth as much as $500 million, according to Deadline.
The move would put Abrams’ film business, responsible for hits such as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and the three recent “Star Trek” films, under the WarnerMedia umbrella. It is unclear how many years would be covered by the new agreement. A WarnerMedia representative declined to comment.
Abrams has had a close relationship with WarnerMedia entities for quite some time. Abrams’ Bad Robot has been based at Warner Bros. TV for years and has produced several series for the company, including “Westworld,” “Lovecraft Country,” and “Demimonde,” all of which are on the HBO service. Abrams also is developing a series based on “They Both Die at the End” for the platform.
Deadline previously reported that WarnerMedia was competing with Apple to win a deal with Bad Robot.

JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot are in final talks for him to keep his TV business and move his film business under the WarnerMedia umbrella. There had been rampant speculation that he would end up there or with Apple, with WarnerMedia emerging as a frontrunner over the past couple of weeks as the shorthand he had developed with the Warner Bros TV gang, and a massive financial commitment has won the most coveted overall deal that had been in play. Expectations were that the deal would fall in the $500 million range.
Deadline reported earlier this month that it was down to WarnerMedia and Apple, with the traditional media company having the upper hand over tech giant, a comparative newcomer in the content creation game.
Abrams, of course, has the history at WarnerMedia as Bad Robot had been based at Warner Bros. TV for many years, delivering a string of series.
