Brooklynized goodness; they put the real in Reality TV.

Hustle in Brooklyn

Started watching this show as a filler waiting on my favorite shows to start airing new seasons. Gravitated towards this one because I'm always interested in the dynamics that is New York. After watching she's gotta Have it (re-imagination) of Spike Lee I got totally infected with the magical vibe that is Brooklyn. I can be short about this HIB: It is a great show. Sure it is reality TV so there are bound to be some instigators; gossip folks, players and clowns BUT in this scenario but most of them are bright young artists with a good head on their shoulders. If there is drama 8 out of 10, are intuitive and intelligent enough to figure out -with the quickness- who is being shady and call the person out on it. After that if they have a close bond, direct effort is being made to keep it moving towards their (mutual) goals. To create a legacy, strife towards what they like to call Black Excellence. To reach that takes real brotherhood and sisterhood, with a profoundness and depth to it, beyond the hustle. For instance when Darnell and Santos had a moment on the court where one realized his friend was right all along about a certain situation, you will see a conversation that is articulate when it comes to their emotions/experiences. Or when Azia expressed to two males in a meeting she would only sing certain lyrics if the word 'sorry' was adjusted to express strength and not weakness. I also see great parenting from different cultures. Mothers and fathers who are not afraid to keep it real and be vulnarable. When I watched it, there was an undeniable authenticity coming from the cast. In todays (reality) TV climate all the above is rare and so I hope they will continue on this pace. That goes for the artists as well as the producers at BET. Because we need people to look up to as creatives but also as humans. Sprinkled with that Brooklyn vibe, they are current and bring value and are pretty refreshing.
