In 1995, Rusty Cundieff graced us horror fans with an interesting anthology film that was horrifying, fun, and provided very outspoken social commentary. Twenty years later, he announced a sequel was going to be made. I was overwhelmed with excitement, and followed the production as I awaited to hear what that devil Simms had to offer us in a second trip to 'The Hood.'

Unfortunately, my eagerness to go on this campy adventure came to a screeching halt during the first story, and never quite resumed. While the original was by no means a masterpiece, this one felt as if it was made of stories that should have been rejected as duds from the original. While anthology films should have a dose of humor to them, it should be balanced with horror, and there's none of that here. Just poorly attempted humor that fails to be humorous, in favor of being over the top zany.

Keith David does a fine job taking over the roll of Simms, originally played by Clarence Williams, who wisely chose not to return for the sequel. That's about as much praise as I can award this follow-up. It both looked and felt less like the work of Rusty Cundieff and more along the lines of a cheap and lost sequel of one of the Wayans brothers "Scary Movie" series. I'd vote to skip this one, if not for checking it out purely out of morbid curiosity. But even the very worst and cheesy Tales from the Crypt episodes were more enjoyable than anything this movie had to offer, and that's pretty disappointing.

This movie was disappointing on so many levels. From the first story (which was very comical) to the end story. I really can't believe that this was made. Was I scared? No.. Was it entertaining? A little.. Would I recommend this?! Absolutely f*^#% not!!

It's hard to imagine this is made by the same people who brought us the original, because it feels like this a poor cash in made by people who didn't understand the original at all. Attempts at humor only comes across as sad and cheesy. They're still tackling important social issues like the original did, but it's nowhere near as thoughtful and smart.

Tales from the Hood the original will always be one of my favorite movies....but what I just watched doesn't even deserve the same title. I didn't even know a part 2 was made. I just happened to catch a preview on Netflix and couldn't wait to watch it. Why would you make us wait all these years for a part 2 and this is what you give us??? It almost seemed like a comedy... where part 1 was full of excitement and horror. I struggled to watch it. My fiancé who didn't see the first one gave up on it before it ended. Come on man!!!

OUCH! I knew ahead of time this would be a lower budget, but had no idea it would be this bad. If I didn't know Rusty Cundieff and Darin Scott returned, I would swear there is no way this could have been made by the same people who made the first film. The first film deftly blended horror stories with social commentary. This one does not. I was excited to see Keith David as the new storyteller, but they just make him do a poor impression of Clarence Williams III, even going so far as to repeat his "the sh*t?" routine. The final story ("The Sacrifice") had promise, but is so unsubtle. When this was announced, I hoped it was a series the could continue every year. After having seen it, I wish they didn't make it.

I did not enjoy any aspect of this film. I am familiar with the original and even re-watched it prior to watching the sequel. the intro was horrible and the trend continued throughout the entire movie. i barely made it. took me two attempts to complete it and it was a task. very disappointed.

BOOM! LOVED IT! Saw it at the Fantasia Festival in Montreal. Directors Cundieff and Scott weave 4 stories with a wrap around.

First, Keith David replaces Clarence Williams III. He BRINGS IT!! Totally believable as Mr. Simms.

All of the stories were great, but I really enjoyed "Golly" and "Emmett Till". Taking a modern character and interweaving it with a historical character was very effective.

"Tales 2" is proof that a horror film can be more than guts and gore, it can have compelling storytelling. "Tales From The Hood 2" deserves to be seen and enjoyed

Kudos to the Producers and Directors for bringing back the franchise!

Watched too many horrors which soley revolve around social media in recent years, movies I struggle to make it through. Either that or haunted house pg13 horror which equally bore the pants of me. This movie turned back the clock to 70s/ 80s anthology style comedy horror, but was a welcome return for me. Yes alot of it is very cliched and many may find it offensive, but thats horror. Apart from a few cliched phrases which would have made Freddy Krueger blush, I enjoyed it although the original more so. The anthology style I recognise from DC comics in the 80s whith series like Tales From The Crypt, and even earlier in the 70s with British director Freddt Francis. I am sure the destinct genre goes back further for those who care to look it up. It does again deal with African American socio- political issues, some of which many may find less relevant than others lol, but there is a wide political debate going on under the cover dressed up as shlock horror which made it funnier and more entertaining for me. I felt like sticking up for the movie anyway saying that its been critically panned by most reviewers.

The first movie was more thought out, poor quality & you can tell there was a huge budget cut. The first "Tales of the Hood" was so much more advanced for its time.

Just like the first film, the sequel is just as outrageous, campy, over the top, and weird. Also similar to the first film is the sociopolitical commentary that sadly still rings just as true in 2018 as it did in 1995.

The Seance story (2nd story about a fake psychic) is by far the best. It was great character development, fantastic actors, and it takes its time to really tell a full story.

The first ("Golly") and third (about Vampires and date rape) could have used a bit more development, but still go the message across.

The third film (based on the true story of Emmett Till) has a completely different tone than the others- its much more serious, poignant, and could stand alone as a short film.

If anything, it reminds you to check your privilege, look around you, and see life from a different perspective. It's also has some great actors- Keith David, Kendrick Brown, Bryan Batt, Creighton Thomas, just to name a few.

Although the tale ''Sacrafice'' is very eye open on the unfortunate US history on civil rights & must of the tales are filled with laughters, I became sick & tired of the racially, sexism BS that was heavy to put onward a liberal hatred of victimhood. Enough of reverse political & please get back to art & genre!

Why, just why. They should have left well enough alone. I personally enjoyed the original one. This. I have no words.

I watched the trailer and that should have been enough for me to to say don't bother with the film but then I thought, no, you must give it a go. Really should have gone with my first instinct.

Weak and in some parts over-acted. Keith David narrating the stories is a little over the top with his acting and the fake laugh? The stories could have been put together a little better though I must admit "The Seance" was good and by far the best.

I really don't know what's happening with films lately. So much rubbish is coming out and the ideas are not there. Predictability, cheap thrills etc.

No wonder I keep going back to foreign films.

The first movie was fun and creepy and terrifying in some instances this was just a terrible parody of that movie. I felt like I was watching a very bad The Asylum production. None of the acting was near watchable. None of the stories were fun, exciting or terrifying. This movie was a joke and should never have been made. Don't know why there are so many high reviews. Must just be family or friends of the cast or crew.

If you've ever seen the first Tales from the Hood, then you know this movie is a disgrace. Like come on!! Half of the movie was filled with "Nigger" being said. The stories didn't even make sense. I don't know who gave the green light on this production, but they really need to re-evaluate their job. There was one cameo, pity, even he seemed to not really care for the role. I'm completely and utterly disappointed in this movie. Oh, and the "Hood" aspect of the movie is more so...... I can't even think of a word to say for that. That's how HORRIBLE it is. Like, talk about gentrification. That's the word. That's the "HOOD" aspect of it. Gentrification. Another good movie ruined by being touched by the wrong hands.

I love horror anthologies and the negative reviews here are unfortunate because there is a moral in each story. A historical/political/socioeconomic satire, if one would say. They even hit the Kavanaugh accusations before it became a thing. So I watched it expecting a horror, but was delivered a message. The original from Snoop Dogg did the same. Thank you to all involved for not holding back the punches! Keep the TFTH anthologies coming!

Don't be fooled! This is not a legit sequel, it's just a low budget comedy horror anthology with the "Tales From The Hood" name slapped onto it. The original was made back in 1995 and it has better SFX than this movie from 2018 and that's just sad. Not to mention Robo-Patriot and a giant killer doll that looks like it came straight out of Sesame St. Seriously, this movie is so bad that it makes "Snoop Dogg's Hood Of Horror" look like a masterpiece!

I saw this for the first time recently since i wanna complete the trilogy. This one aint that good compared to the first one n rather than improving it went downhill but it has some funny segments as well as a serious thought provoking one. The first one is silly n unnecessarily gory without any suspense or tension. The second one is entertaining n hilarious bah a phony psychic and it has a hot babe Sandra n a nasty head twisting scene. The third one is very predictable aka a very lame vampire tale. The fourth one has an Angela White lookalike but with red hair. This one is very thought provoking but they rushed the ending. It is inspired by the actual beating and lynching of Emmett Till and makes reference to many other figures of importance to the civil rights movement.

I was hoping for something similar to the 1st one, at least "SOMEWHAT SIMILAR". I have to say that they could have done a better job than this...Seriously...

The stories were not scary - but somewhat confusing to understand at times. I can't believe that after all of these years this is the best that they could have come up with???

Please restart the franchise and start again with a better writer and director
