Legally Blonde 3

Landman Star Ali Larter Would Return To This Classic Comedy Franchise In A Heartbeat
Image
Long before Ali Larter was cast as the free-spirited Angela Norris on "Landman," she played Brooke Taylor-Windham in the comedy "Legally Blonde." The character is a fitness instructor who gets accused of killing her elderly husband, but Reese Witherspoon's Harvard law student, Elle Woods, believes that she's innocent and decides to represent her in court. The truth comes out in the end, and Brooke avoids a stint in prison, meaning that she's free to return in the long-gestating "Legally Blonde 3" or any other project set in this universe. What's more, Larter is keen to reprise the role, as she told The Hollywood Reporter:

"I've always heard that ['Legally Blonde 3'] was getting written, and that Mindy Kaling was doing it, so who knows. Now they're doing the ['Legally Blonde'] TV show, so that's going to take the space of that for a while. But I think...

The original Elle, Reese Witherspoon, who serves as executive producer for the new show, recently shared the first image of the 90s-set outing in a post on Instagram. The new Elle, Lexi Minetree, is seen lying on a pink bedspread - pink being the color most closely associated with the character and her unapologetically girly franchise - and speaking into a retro phone.

Jennifer Coolidge Wants ‘Something Terrible’ to Happen to Jon Gries’ ‘White Lotus’ Character: ‘I Hope He Gets It!’
Image
Jennifer Coolidge may be “envious as hell” that she’s not in “The White Lotus” Season 3, but she is more than happy her character Tanya at least doesn’t have to deal with Jon Gries’ Greg.

Tanya and her husband Greg had a tumultuous marriage, leading to Greg seemingly hiring his former lover Quentin (Tom Hollander) to murder her. Tanya survived the kidnapping, but fell to her death while escaping. Now in Season 3, Gries’ Greg is back at the White Lotus resorts, this time with a new name (Gary) in Thailand. He also has a new girlfriend (Charlotte Le Bon) on his arm. Yet Greg/Gary isn’t the only returning “White Lotus” character: Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), who knew Greg from Season 1, definitely recognizes him…

And Coolidge can’t wait for chaos to ensue.

“Jon Gries has shown up,” Coolidge told Forbes. “I hope he gets it! I hope they do something terrible to him.

Mindy Kaling on Her ‘The Office’ Legacy, the Status of ‘Legally Blonde 3’ and Planning a Return to Acting
Image
Mindy Kaling is ready to step back in front of the camera. After both writing and starring in “The Office” and “The Mindy Project” (which she also created) early in her career, Kaling took a break from acting in recent years to focus on building a string of successful TV series — not to mention raising three young kids. That’s why you haven’t seen her pop into some of her hit comedies like “Never Have I Ever” and “The Sex Lives of College Girls.”

But that acting itch is making a bit of a return, particularly after she recently watched a few episodes of “Never Have I Ever” with her young cousins. “I was like, ‘As someone who has my own TV show and loves to act, how did I not act in the show about an Indian American family?’” Kaling says. “It was going so good that I...

10 Movie Sequel Setups That Went Nowhere
Image
Many movie franchises were canceled due to poor box office performance, leaving sequel setups unresolved. Movie endings frequently introduce new conflicts or villains to set the stage for future installments. Factors like cast changes, financial issues, or studio decisions can lead to planned sequels being abandoned, leaving audiences with unresolved storylines.

Many planned movie franchises were canceled following the first movie's poor performance, resulting in some sequel setups that went nowhere. Generally, a poor box office performance is all there is to it the first movie didn't make enough money, so the studio abandoned the franchise altogether rather than risk losing more, regardless of whether the movie acts as though there will be a sequel. Other factors may contribute, like a cast or crew member moving on from the project.

A common movie sequel setup is the introduction of a new villain following the defeat of the previous installment's antagonist.

‘Legally Blonde’ Prequel Series ‘Elle’ Is Just the Latest Franchise Installment in Reese Witherspoon’s Enduring Empire

Reese Witherspoon has bent and snapped her way into a full-fledged “Legally Blonde” empire.

After playing L.A. sorority girl turned Harvard Law School student — and arguably, feminist icon — Elle Woods in 2001, Witherspoon has led sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde” and is slated to star in a third film written by Mindy Kaling and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor. "Remo Williams 2": Everything We Know About The TV Show
Image
Fans eagerly await Remo Williams 2 to revive the mid-80s cinematic legacy of martial arts and espionage. Gordon Smith's involvement in a new TV show offers hope for a serialized adaptation rich with character depth. Sony's plan for a comprehensive reboot signals a departure from the standalone narrative of the original movie.

The legacy of Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins endures as a quintessential slice of mid-80s cinema, and fans have been waiting for Remo Williams 2 for decades. The original movie is based on Warren Murphy and Richard Sapir's The Destroyer pulp novel series and aimed to kickstart a franchise mirroring the success and longevity of its literary counterpart, which spans over 150 books. Despite its ambitions and a charismatic performance by Fred Ward as the titular character, the film's underwhelming box office reception left its sequel and broader franchise ambitions unfulfilled.

The combination of martial arts,...

Lawsuits surrounding the sequel exposed the tumultuous behind-the-scenes drama and highlighted challenges in international film production and rights management.

Beverly Hills Ninja, released in 1997, is remembered as a comedic romp featuring the late Chris Farley in a winning blend of martial arts and humor, and Beverly Hills Ninja 2 was briefly in development too. The original film follows inept ninja Haru (Farley), an American raised by a clan of martial artists in Japan when he washed ashore as a young boy, who finds himself on a comical adventure in Beverly Hills. 10 Movies That Should Continue With A TV Spinoff
Image
Some movies or entire franchises could benefit from legacy sequels, prequels, or spinoffs in the TV format. For example, an Ocean's 8 television series would reunite the cast that never returned for a sequel and introduce new con artists, A Hunger Games television series could focus on the other games not featured in the films, introducing new characters and exploring different years of the Games, allowing the franchise to grow and thrive on TV as well.

In recent years, several movie series have been revived on television, expanding the story of the world and characters created in the original premise, yet there are still a few famous films whose story should continue in a TV reboot. Box office hits often see the demand for a sequel or spin-off in their respective franchises, but it is worth considering that a format change could allow for further success. One notable example of this is Cobra Kai,...

Legally Blonde 3 Gets Optimistic Update From Star After Barbie Box Office Success
Image
Legally Blonde 3 was originally announced to be in development in 2018, but has not yet come to fruition. Legally Blonde star Luke Wilson believes Reese Witherspoon is determined to find the perfect script. Wilson suggests that the success of the Barbie movie might inspire the Legally Blonde team to work hard on crafting the best script possible.

Legally Blonde 3 has gotten a cautiously optimistic update in the wake of Barbie's success. The original 2001 movie Legally Blonde followed spoiled sorority girl Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) as she went to Harvard in an attempt to win back her ex, only to realize that she genuinely wanted to succeed as a lawyer. The movie spawned the sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, & Blonde and the TV movie spinoff Legally Blondes, but while Legally Blonde 3 was announced to be in development as early as 2018, the movie has yet to get any closer to kicking off production.

10 Great Movie Sequels That Made $1 Billion At The Box Office (When The Original Didn't)
Image
Movie franchises can often produce a sequel that surpasses the success of the original, with some even reaching the $1 billion mark at the box office. The success of a movie franchise depends on factors such as time frame, marketing, critical acclaim, and viewer interest in the story. Examples of successful sequel films include "Top Gun: Maverick," which surpassed the original film's success, and "Finding Dory," which achieved over $1 billion in ticket sales after the first film fell short.

A movie franchise doesn't typically start with a record-setting film in terms of ticket sales, but a well-developed sequel further down the road might hit the $1 billion mark. However, there is no success formula that can be applicable to all franchises. For some, it takes two or three movies to set this record, while for others, it never comes. The time frame, marketing, critical acclaim, and other things might factor in most unpredictably.

19-Year-Old Reese Witherspoon Felt She ‘Didn’t Have Control Over’ Her intimate Scene in Fear
Image
Reese Witherspoon overcame her Fear and has since become one of Hollywood’s elite talents. Five years prior to the aforementioned 1996 thriller, which was directed by James Foley, Witherspoon made her film debut in the heralded The Man in the Moon. However, Fear was much maligned by critics. The movie fared only slightly better with audiences, and Witherspoon didn’t care for the sex scene she had to share with co-star Mark Wahlberg on-screen.

“I didn’t have control over it,” Witherspoon said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “It wasn’t explicit in the script that that’s what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own. And then [Foley] asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no. It wasn’t a particularly great experience.”

Witherspoon was only 19 years old when she shot Fear.

Reese Witherspoon Says ‘Fear’ Rollercoaster Sex Scene Was ‘Formative’: ‘I Didn’t Have Control Over It’

Reese Witherspoon is recalling riding out the rollercoaster of being a young Hollywood star under the male gaze.

The Hello Sunshine production company founder told Harper’s Bazaar how the infamous 1996 erotic thriller “Fear” — released when she was 20 — partly inspired her to shift her career to become an “agent for change” for women in Hollywood.

Witherspoon unpacked the iconic rollercoaster scene in which her character is fingered by the sinister love interest, played by Mark Wahlberg. Witherspoon noted that she requested a stunt double for the below-the-waist scenes; the film was directed by James Foley.

“I didn’t have control over it,” Witherspoon said. “It wasn’t explicit in the script that that’s what was going to happen, so that was something that I think the director thought of on his own and then asked me on set if I would do it, and I said no. It wasn’t a particularly great experience.

Why a 'Legally Blonde' TV Show Is a Good Idea
Image
Two decades later and Legally Blonde is finally making a revival on Amazon Prime with a potential TV show and Reese Witherspoon reprising her role in Legally Blonde 3. As a staple in the 2000s era chick flicks, Legally Blonde did not only pioneer the iconic "bend and snap" but also addressed many compelling issues from female empowerment to sexual harassment. Using comedy and fashion, the film enraptured and encouraged women, particularly "girly girls," to never underestimate themselves, and the character of Elle Woods practically became a role model. It would be impossible to replace or re-imagine this cult classic, but framing the TV show as a love letter to the original may open up opportunities to delve into more contemporary issues without parodying its charm and nostalgia.

With big hits like "Daisy Jones & The Six" and "Where the Crawdads Sing" to its name, Reese Witherspoon's media company Hello Sunshine has quickly become a formidable force in the entertainment industry. Hello Sunshine isn't Witherspoon's first foray into producing, though - she founded the production company Type A Films in 2000, which went on to produce hits like "Gone Girl" and "Wild." In 2016, she joined forces with Seth Rodsky, Sarah Harden, and Otter Media to launch Hello Sunshine into the stratosphere. The company, which is focused on elevating women's stories, produces movies, TV shows, and documentaries. Witherspoon also curates a monthly book club under the Hello Sunshine name, and many of those books have been turned into onscreen projects - including, most recently, Nikolaj Coster-Waldeau and Jennifer Garner's "The Last Thing He Told Me," which premiered on Apple TV+ on April 14.
