Even though, Killer (1983) was commissioned as a one-off mini-series it was spun-off into one of the longest-running British TV shows, Taggart (1983).
This quintessentially Glaswegian mini-series was devised and written by Edinburghian writer Glenn Chandler. Chandler originally wanted to set the show in Edinburgh but since STV's headquarters were in Glasgow, this would have been impractical and costly.
The famous Taggart (1983) theme song, "No Mean City" sung by Maggie Bell doesn't appear in this mini-series. It first appeared on the first episode of Taggart (1983), entitled Dead Ringer, Part 1 (1985).
This mini-series marks the first appearance of DCI Jim Taggart and DS Peter Livingstone and several other minor characters who would later be carried over into the spin-off TV series Taggart (1983).
