The character of "Gary Gibbs" is named after Boo's voice actress Mary Gibbs in Monsters Inc. (2001)
This is only the second time that an animated television series from Disney was based on a Pixar film. The first was Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000) (not counting the Cars Toons compilations Mater's Tall Tales (2008) and Tales from Radiator Springs (2013) which were a series of shorts aired on television. Also not counting Forky Asks a Question and Pixar Popcorn which were series of shorts on Disney+, like this series.)
Mindy Kaling replaced Kelly Marie Tran as the voice of Val Little who was originally announced to play the role.
In the episode "Little Monsters" the monster selling donuts is based on an old design for Tylor.
The only beloved character unsure to return is Boo, after Mike rebuilt her door, Sulley reunites with her, so there could be some chance she'll appear.
