Although never stated, the film takes place in 2318 in the future capital of the UK, Manchester, which replaced London after a war in the 21st century left most of the south of England uninhabitable.
One of the background announcements reads "Construction manager ONE SEVEN ZERO ONE - report to Terminal director ZERO ZERO FOUR" This is a nod to the series Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987) to which the numbers 1701 and 004 (or the fourth letter in the alphabet, "D") make up the registry of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D.
