Ruby Park and Elijah Boothe in Pink Opaque (2020)
Multi-award winning independent film, Pink Opaque, is now available on Amazon.

Starring Elijah Boothe, from Netflix's "Luke Cage," Pink Opaque is an ensemble film that follows the struggles of Travis Wolfe, a film student fighting to finish his thesis film. While nurturing a budding romance with Kristen Lee, a street-wise fashion designer on the rise, Travis also reconnects with his estranged uncle, leading to an unfamiliar look at his family history and a renewed uncertainty of his future.

The themes of love, family, and redemption make this a story that speaks to audiences while examining social issues like homelessness, sexuality, and prejudice.

Created by a diverse team of Los Angeles-based filmmakers focused on creating inclusive content that normalizes diversity. Pink Opaque is 100% self-funded and self-produced without the support of a studio, institution, or grant.

Filming took place in Hollywood, Koreatown, Malibu, Echo Park, Downtown, Beverly Hills, and beyond. Each location painted a distinct visual texture of the undeniable vastness of Los Angeles.

    Unique Coming-of-Age

This is an original & sobering coming-of-age story that struck deep within the chords of my heart. Gorgeous cinematography that was truly a love letter to LA. Amazing performances all around - special nod to Daniel C as Bobby the older brother (a passionate and gripping turn that resonated long after the credits rolled). Overall, highly recommend for anyone looking for a refreshing and poignant film.

    Yuck

It's just yuck. Like a high school play, but somehow done worse. The dialogue feels like it was written by someone who overheard a conversation once and thought, "Yeah, I get human emotion now."

The pacing drags like it's being punished, the plot is barely there, and when it is, it's like trying to follow a GPS that only gives vibes. The cinematography wants to be deep, but mostly just looks like someone accidentally smeared Vaseline on the lens and called it "aesthetic."

It's trying so hard to be artsy and meaningful that it ends up feeling like an inside joke nobody explained. Watching this felt like sitting through a 90-minute Instagram filter. I kept waiting for it to get better - or at least end - and somehow it failed at both.

Avoid unless you enjoy pain or want to appreciate how good literally any other movie is by comparison.

    How come ??

I cannot believe such productions gets supported, to me it's an absolute mystery it has even been awarded. The acting is terrible, mostly from the girlfriend and dealer brother that plays as good as in the worst Latin American soaps. The global photo is quite good tho, but I cannot say how bad the costumes are, all leaves you with such a fake impression, someway not realistic because cheap. The group of friends looks so made up. Yuk. No real intrigue, the ending is more than predictable and super cheesy. You've gotta be 11 years old to maybe appreciate something there. Sure wont watch anything else from Derrick Perry.

    • Trivia
The title of this movie and that of the fictional Buffy the Vampire Slayer analogue show (as evidenced by the use of font), "Pink Opaque", is likely borrowed from the title of a compilation album by the Cocteau Twins.
