Accidental Texan is named one of C&I's Top 10 Best Cowboys, Gunslingers and New Western's of 2024.
Accidental Texan was nominated in five categories at the eighth annual C&I Movie & TV Awards, handed out by the Cowboys & Indians Magazine. The movie was nominated for Best Picture, director Mark Lambert Bristol was nominated for Best Director, screenwriter Julie B. Denny was nominated for Best Screenplay, Thomas Haden Church was nominated for Best Actor, and Carrie-Anne Moss was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Originally set to be filmed in Abilene, TX but changed to Buffalo Gap for a smaller town vibe. Abilene has a population around 150,000 while Buffalo Gap is only around 500 and is located about 15 miles south of Abilene.
The book, 'Chocolate Lizards', takes place in Abilene, Texas. Buffalo Gap is a much smaller town 15 miles south of Abilene.
When she was sent the script Carrie-Anne Moss said she loved the story and would be happy to work with Thomas Haden Church and Bruce Dern but that she felt that her character had not been developed enough in the story. She asked if the character could be more fleshed out to help the story and when writers and producers re-imagined the character to fit the challenge, she signed on. Director Mark Lambert Bristol said that this resulted in her character being a much more realistic, dramatic, and heartfelt one.
