When Nana is flipping through channels, the television briefly shows a scene from the horror film Cronos (1992). That film features a mechanical bug device that bonds with its user, similar to the Khaji-Da scarab in this film.
During the fight scene between Jaime and Carapax on the island, Khaji-Da tells Jaime that it can create any weapon he can imagine. He then proceeds to create the iconic Buster Sword from the Final Fantasy VII video game series.
"Bruce Wayne bought Twitter" is spoken in Spanish on a TV in Jaime's house.
In the opening titles, a green light is spotted while the Scarab hurls through space. Director Angel Manuel Soto confirmed that this was a reference to the Green Lantern Corps, who in the DC Comics were the enemies of the Scarab and its creators the Reach.
Rudy's El Chapulin device is named after El Chapulín Colorado (1973), a Mexican comedy superhero show whose main character, El Chapulin Colorado (The Red Cricket), is an insect-themed hero like the Blue Beetle. The Chapulin transmission is narrated by Roberto Gómez, son of the original Chapulin actor Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
