Francesco Marzano and Ottavio Rosati in La scacchiera e il play (2012)

FAQ

La scacchiera e il play

In Rome, in February 1986, after a meeting for the presentation of the book "Psychodrama" by Moreno, the writer Fernanda Pivano and Ottavio Rosati make a party and invite friends of psychodrama around a cake called "Torta Morena". In Italian 'More' means blackberries! The contrast between the color of blackberries and the cream makes Ottavio think of a chessboard on which to place the chess-like statues. The first statuette will be that of a white ghost.

Nobody ever wanted to count them. Indeed it is forbidden to count them. There are probably around three thousand.

It is based on the dislocation of action figures from the world of cinema, fantasy, sport and religions, on a series of chessboards surrounded by lights and laser pointers.

Rosati does a "Videoplay" after the creation of a psychodrama with actors combined with a "Scacchiera" with statues, action figures and toys... As director, he hands over the camera to the patient/protagonist who chooses the lights and the music in order to run a final sequence-plan of his creation. Rosati calls Videoplay this final step of the process that the patient in the next days can see when he likes or he needs it. The patient can also place the most beautiful and symbolic frame of the video on the screen of his smartphone.
