A court in Tokyo ruled that the film's funding must be restored after the government of Japan withdrew its support due to a minor star using drugs. While the court did not dispute the illegality and undesirability of using illegal drugs, it noted that the case had unfolded after the fact following the movie's completion.
The film was subject to a lawsuit in Japan after funding for it was withdrawn by the Japan Arts' Council following the arrest of its star Pierre Taki for drug use.
