The Hellboy universe just added a new creepy-crawlie to their list of spooky things to freak you out, a raccoon that skitters into your room while you sleep, and climbs Into Your Mouth thus possessing your body with its trash panda spirit. At least, that’s what opens in the brand new “Hellboy: The Crooked Man” trailer that dropped at San Diego Comic-Con.
The brand-new Big Red, Jack Kesy, made his first public appearance as the newly rebooted Hellboy. Kesy joined castmates Jefferson White (“Yellowstone”), Adeline Rudolph (“Resident Evil”), director Brian Taylor and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, the gang tickeld the crowd with a new look at the third iteration of this beloved monster.
The new film is based off the beloved “Crooked Man” comic storyline (also penned by Mignola). A book that is 100% spooky has hell, which is exactly what the new crew wants. Variety is exclusively debuting the...

Koshi Nakanashi, who directed 2017’s Resident Evil 7, is to take the lead on Resident Evil 9, which is now in development according to Capcom.
Japanese studio Capcom has made a huge success out of its remakes of bygone Resident Evil games, with last year’s Resident Evil 4 picking up awards and breaking sales records for its sensitive updating of the 2005 classic.
Capcom is also looking to the survival horror series’ future, however, having just confirmed that it’s currently working on Resident Evil 9 – the first proper sequel since 2021’s Resident Evil Village. Development will be headed up by Koshi Nakanashi, who previously directed 2017’s Resident Evil: Biohazard.
Shifting the series’ perspective from third- to first-person, Biohazard was widely regarded as a leaner, scarier return to form following the increasingly action-focused Resident Evil 5 and 6.

We all have those games. You know, the ones you played growing up that you absolutely loved and defended fanatically, only to find out years later that the game you cherished when you were younger wasn’t actually that good? It’s probably not the way you’d want to start off talking about Trilobyte’s The 7th Guest, 30 years after its release. After all, unlike some games today that have been totally obscured by nostalgia, The 7th Guest is a landmark title. The game was one of the first to help usher in the CD format, which subsequently unleashed the era of Fmv-based games that still has entries being released today. But even with that noteworthy achievement, just how kind has time been to The 7th Guest after all this time?
The 7th Guest‘s story begins in 1935, in the town of Harley-on-the-Hudson. A man named Henry Stauf kills...

Michelle Rodriguez has explained why she’s turned down James Cameron’s offer to return in Avatar.
The Lost actor, who stars in new film Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, played Trudy in the Cameron’s 2009 blockbuster.
However, she does not appear in sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, as her character died in the original.
But this hasn’t stopped Cameron from considering bringing back Trudy in one of the forthcoming instalments, which are scheduled to be released over the next four years.
Rodriguez revealed in an interview with Vanity Fair that Cameron said he floated the idea of Trudy’s resurrection by her, but that she stopped him in his tracks.
“Dude, when I saw Jim [Cameron] recently, he was like, ‘I was thinking, ‘What if Michelle came back? A lot of the other characters came back,’” she said, adding: “I was like, ‘You can’t do that – I died as a martyr.

Now, we don't know what the residual details are like for any of the actors in James Cameron's "Avatar" films, but considering both movies are currently in the top 5 highest-grossing films in history, everyone on screen is likely getting a pretty nice payday for their participation. Getting to appear in any of the "Avatar" films would be a dream come true for plenty of folks, but Michelle Rodriguez — who played combat pilot Trudy Chacón in the first film — has no interest in returning to the beautiful world of Pandora. In case you've forgotten, Chacón was a sympathetic figure to the Na'vi in "Avatar," and ends up sacrificing herself during an extremely emotional moment in the final battle to help save the extraterrestrial humanoids of the moon jungle.
In most movies, death marks the end of a character's journey, but James Cameron doesn't limit his storytelling with silly constraints like mortality.

Michelle Rodridguez had an invitation from director James Cameron to return to the “Avatar” franchise — but shot it down.
In a new interview with Vanity Fair to promote her latest, “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves”, Rodriguez recalled a conversation she about her “Avatar” character, Trudy Chacón, who heroically sacrifices her life for the greater good.

Michelle Rodriguez’s characters often refuse to stay dead. Because of this, she now refuses to come back to life. You gotta hand it to her, turning down an Avatar payday in favor of principle is pretty dignified. Variety recently reports on the Fast & Furious star as she encountered James Cameron and he pitches her an idea. What if her character in Avatar somehow returned in a future sequel? Rodriguez feels it would be overkill, because she’s already had three movie franchises that has brought her back from the dead.
Rodriguez played a human ally in the first Avatar in 2009. Her character, Trudy Chacón, was a pilot who aided the Na’vi in their defense against the human attack and would get slain during the battle. Cameron has stated before that one regret he has is killing off her character. “Dude, when I saw Jim [Cameron] recently, he was like,...

Video games have been a huge part of popular culture for decades now, particularly following the home console boom in the '80s. In all that time, few games have endured quite like "Tetris" has. It's become an absolute staple of this era, with people playing the simple yet addicting game for hours on end on the original Game Boy, the Nes, or at their nearest arcade. So, perhaps it's only fitting that, in an era when video game movies are finally starting to click in a real way, this beloved title would finally get the big screen treatment. No, it's not an adaptation. Rather, it's more of a biopic in the form of director Jon S. Baird's "Tetris," which arrives on Apple TV+ this week. In a roundabout way, it instantly earns its place as one of the greatest video game movies to date.

Michelle Rodriguez declined James Cameron's offer to bring her 'Avatar' character back from the dead. The 44-year-old star thought it would be "overkill" if her alter-ego Captain Trudy Chacon - who passed away in the 2009 original movie 'Avatar' - reappeared in a future film, because her characters in 'Resident Evil', 'Fast and Furious', and 'Machete' had already returned when they "weren't supposed to". She told Vanity Fair magazine: "Dude, when I saw Jim recently, he was like, 'I was thinking, What if Michelle came back? Michelle Rodriguez doesn’t think Hollywood knows what to do with her.
The franchise staple actress, most famously in the decades-spanning “Fast and Furious” universe, recalled turning down appearing in “Avatar: The Way of Water” after her character Trudy Chacón died in the first 2009 film. Trudy (Rodriguez) is a combat pilot working for the government Avatar Program who dies in battle after sacrificing her life to support the Indigenous Na’vi of Pandora.
Rodriguez denied appearing again in the franchise and told “Avatar: The Way of Water” director James Cameron why.

Michelle Rodriguez has refused to let James Cameron even entertain the idea of bringing her back to the Avatar series, citing too many resurrections of her past characters in other film franchises.
The Fast and Furious actress was apparently unmoved by the record-breaking box office hauls of the 2009 film in which she played the sympathetic, pro-Na’vi combat pilot Trudy Chacón, and its similarly successful 2022 sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water. So, she recalled to Vanity Fair, when she ran into Cameron and he told her “‘I was thinking, “What if Michelle came back? A lot of the other characters came back [in The Way of Water].”‘ I was like, ‘You can’t do that — I died as a martyr.'”
Aside from not wanting to tarnish the noble ending given to her character, Rodriguez’s insistence was both a career and creative-based decision. She says that she told Cameron, “‘I came back in Resident Evil,...

For genre fans who grew up in the 1980s and ’90s, Fangoria will always be one of the biggest names in horror. While under control of various owners, the Fangoria brand has weaved in and out of the movie world over the decades – and the latest iteration of Fangoria launched Fangoria Studios in 2021 “to develop and produce film, television and podcasts.” Now Variety reports that Fangoria Studios is developing a live-action feature film adaptation of the manga Bloodsucking Darkness, created by Junji Ito, with The Haunting of Hill House writer Jeff Howard working on the screenplay. Resident Evil has received more game-to-screen adaptations than any other video game franchise that’s not targeted at children, with five animated films, a Netflix live-action series, a saga of six live-action movies, and a film reboot that failed in the eyes of fans and critics, alike. For some reason, the execs in Hollywood and at Capcom can never get it right and invest in adapting Resident Evil 4 with Leon as the main character, off to rescue the president’s daughter from Plagas-infected Spaniards. The original Resident Evil 4 from 2005 is considered a masterpiece in the gaming community, and its current 2023 remake has received worldwide acclaim. Both titles tell the story of a former Raccoon City police rookie, Leon S. Kennedy, now a U.S. spy, on a mission to save Ashley Graham, the president’s daughter, from a religious cult in rural Spain. Most actors would jump at the chance to star in sequels to the highest-grossing movie of all time. Michelle Rodriguez clearly isn’t most actors. The “Fast & Furious” favorite revealed to Vanity Fair that she told James Cameron he couldn’t bring her “Avatar” character back from the dead because that’s already happened three times in her career. A fourth time would be “overkill,” Rodriguez told the blockbuster filmmaker.
Rodriguez made her “Avatar” debut in Cameron’s 2009 original. She played Trudy Chacón, a combat pilot working for the Avatar Program who is sympathetic to the Na’vi. Trudy sacrifices her life in battle to ensure the Na’vi prevail over the villainous humans trying to take control of Pandora.

Michelle Rodriguez is one of Hollywood’s most popular “tough girl” actors. She got her start in independent films but quickly transitioned to major franchises such as the Fast & Furious movies. Uncompromising and straightforward, Rodriguez has also acted prolifically in television, including in the TV series Lost. Many of her characters have something in common, in addition to their tough personas — they all die horrifically onscreen. Even James Cameron opted to kill off her fan-favorite Avatar character, revealing later that he very much regretted eliminating the chance for Rodriguez to appear in the sequel.

Those of you waiting on an update on director Brandon Salisbury‘s upcoming George A. Romero’s Resident Evil documentary since it was announced way back in September are in for a treat. Courtesy of the folks over at Residence of Evil, the documentary on the “What if?” of George Romero’s Resident Evil film now has a teaser trailer, and aims to “immerse the audience in a cinematic horror aesthetic.”
Salisbury stated that he wanted to pay homage to Romero’s style and the game itself with the documentary, which is listed as “Coming Soon”. As a result, the documentary takes place in a mansion that echoes the look of Resident Evil‘s Spencer Mansion, and is shot to mimic Romero’s style.

I’ve long been one of those gamers who thinks that underachieving games with great ideas should get remakes rather than already great games. That argument doesn’t make much business sense (which is why it rarely happens), but the creative logic is sound. An incredible game is often only in need of a touch-up (if anything). Proper remakes sometimes feel like they should be reserved for games that had potential that is easier to see through modern eyes and with the help of modern technology. Of course, Capcom’s recent Resident Evil remakes have certainly challenged that seemingly sound theory.
2019’s Resident Evil 2 Remake was a revelation. I already considered Resident Evil 2 to be one of the best Resident Evil games ever (and one of the best survival horror games ever), so I obviously didn’t think it needed a remake. Yet, that remake’s stunning visuals,...

It's about time for "Silent Hill" to make a comeback. The popular horror video game franchise is not only getting several new entries but also another film adaptation. "Return to Silent Hill" will become the third movie in the series, though it sounds as if director Christopher Gans is making more of a reboot than a proper sequel. The film will serve to accompany the upcoming video game titles in a massive wave of "Silent Hill" projects that publisher Konami announced last October.
The series revolves around the titular town of Silent Hill (located in Maine in the games and West Virginia in the movies), a place imbued with an ancient and terrible power that manifests its visitors' inner fears, traumas, and guilt in the form of misshapen creatures. Each entry follows a different character and their hellish adventures into Silent Hill, where they have to contend with the Order,...

The Resident Evil 4 Remake updates quite a few things about the original game, but some things never change. That means that you’ll still need to eventually solve a slightly modified version of that damn stained glass window puzzle in the church area.
This puzzle will almost certainly be one of the first major progression roadblocks for Resident Evil fans that always seem to struggle with this franchise’s sometimes frustrating riddles. While this particular puzzle will almost certainly drive those players mad at first, it turns out this puzzle is really just a matter of trial and error. If you’d rather skip all of those errors, though, then here’s exactly how to solve it.
How to Find the Blue Dial
To properly start the church window puzzle, you’ll first need to find the nearby blue dial that will let you actually interact with the stained glass window.

Fans of Capcom’s upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake won’t have to wonder if the game will be getting a VR mode. With Resident Evil Village receiving its free VR upgrade yesterday, Capcom also announced via Twitter that RE4 will be getting a VR upgrade for the PlayStation VR2.
“The VR mode for Resident Evil 4 has begun development! Please look forward to more details in the future!” read the initial (translated) tweet from Resident Evil’s Japanese Twitter. Following that was a second tweet that read, “The VR mode for Resident Evil 4 will be released as free downloadable content for PlayStation 5 / PlayStation VR2.”
From the sounds of things, the VR mode won’t be making it in time for the remake’s release on March 24, but one never knows.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is bringing the beloved Nintendo franchise to cinemas in April, Chris Pratt’s Mario voice and all! We’ve already seen multiple trailers teasing the animated adventure from Nintendo and Illumination. However, a new poster for the film is here to announce the date of the film’s final trailer!
The Super Mario Bros. poster features Mario (Chris Pratt), Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), and Cranky Kong (Fred Armisen) driving along Rainbow Road while avoiding Bob-ombs and Spiney Shells. Each character is piloting a vehicle from the ultra-popular Mario Kart video game franchise, as floating islands and stars hang in the sky. The poster is another example of how far Nintendo and Illumination are willing to go to make the Super Mario Bros. Movie a colorful romp through the Mushroom Kingdom.

Lionsgate has dropped its third and final trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 4.” The Keanu Reeves-led action franchise is the brightest bright spot on Lionsgate’s theatrical slate and their most obvious hope for a 2023 breakout.
As with previous trailers, this one shows off new action scenes, new opponents and new comparative niche — at least to North American viewers — movie stars coming to the party.
To those in the know, the likes of Chinese action-god Donnie Yen and direct-to-dvd and VOD action king Scott Adkins (also seen by American theatergoers in “Doctor Strange” and “Expendables 2”) qualify as added value elements. The film will give these folks a higher-profile platform, at least in terms of mainstream Hollywood audiences, to show off their star power.
Clancy Brown showing up and subtly riffing on his “Highlander” appearance is for fans old enough to have kids who can buy an R-rated movie ticket sans parent or guardian.

"The Last of Us" is a bit of a deceiving game. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be any immediate thing that separates this from, well, any of the other dozens of zombie shows and movies from the past few decades. This is no groundbreaking mix of genres like "Juan of the Dead," or "Shaun of the Dead," or even an inventive romp like the zombie musicals "Anna and the Apocalypse" and "The Happiness of the Katakuris." The game doesn't necessarily add something drastically new to the mythology of the zombie like the fast zombies in "28 Days Later" or giant mutant ones from "Resident Evil."
And yet, the games, and now the HBO adaptation, take what you know about the zombie genre and make small but significant changes that quickly add up to a very special and unique story. "The Last of Us" is more than a story about surviving the apocalypse,...

Nintendo and Illumination Entertainment have released new posters for the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie, featuring Mario and Luigi in vastly different parts of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario leaps through the air with his fist held high in the first promo, ready to smash blocks while avoiding Piranha Plants and Banzai Bills. Peach’s Castle sits proudly in the distance as pitfalls and traps surround the red-hatted plumber. In the second poster, Luigi is held captive by a group of Shy Guys, pulling him toward a hot air balloon while Bowser’s Castle looms in the background. Both images highlight the brilliant colors seen in the film’s trailer and showcase the disparity between the zones of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Back in 1993, Hollywood had the shot of a lifetime. A shot at an opportunity to change the movie industry forever. They had all the ingredients: the rights to the highest-selling Nintendo video game and an untapped market greedy for more content. But they missed. The arrow didn’t even hit the board.

Brazilian developer United Games has announced a new single-player survival horror VR title in Fractured Sanity. Due out on Steam and Meta Quest, Fractured Sanity is inspired by classics such as Silent Hill and Resident Evil where you’ll not only have to survive, but also use your wits in order to solve puzzles.
The story sees you waking up in a cell at the Triton Institute, an experimental asylum led by Dr. Matthew Simmons. Rumours abound that the clinic has been host to abuse and inhumane working conditions. Only now, it seems that most of the staff has gone missing. All you know is that Dr. Simmons has been conducting research into the tripartite psyche on how to break someone’s id, ego and superego apart. Not only will you have to escape your cell and the clinic, but also uncover the truth about the facility, and just how you got there.

Video game adaptations: one of cinema’s most hated-on subgenres. Whenever another beloved controllable franchise is announced for moviegoing treatment, eyes roll. Critics quiver. Visions of Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne or Uwe Boll’s crimes against both gamersphere credibility and audience standards montage a hard-fast argument for such scoffs.
Fantastical play-alongs turned theatrical try-hards have long become the butt of many online jokes, and while titles such as Detective Pikachu and both Sonic the Hedgehog films disprove “cursed” trends, I’d argue that not all video game adaptations are created equal.
Horror video game adaptations maketh the best video game adaptations, and that’s by an Arklay country mile.
“But Matt…House of the Dead?”

Until recently, Konami had left the Silent Hill franchise dormant, leaving a huge hole in the survival horror genre. Since then, many indie developers have taken up the mantle. Games like Lone Survivor and Signalis each took the ethos of the series and put their own spin on it, creating personal works that reflected what made the original titles great to begin with. The latest attempt at capturing the glory days of the series is Lake Haven – Chrysalis, a brief prologue to an upcoming full game. While developer Encrypt Games does a good job of emulating the look and feel, it does so often at the cost of its own identity.
Lake Haven – Chrysalis starts with a very Twin Peaks set up. You are a detective who has been assigned to what seems like a basic case investigating a missing woman at an isolated farmhouse. Of course, nothing is as simple as it seems,...

"The Last of Us" is not only one of the greatest video games of the modern era, it is also the best show of the year so far. The TV series is a phenomenal adaptation, with casting that masterfully embodies the characters, a look that translates the game to the screen exquisitely, and a story that is incredibly faithful to the original. This is a show that is both emotionally gripping and deeply terrifying, as the latest episode revealed.
One thing that makes "The Last of Us" stand out as a zombie story is that its infected are not treated as regular old ghouls. These are not zombies who rise from the grave and bite people, or sick people who get superpowered strength or rabies, but people infected with fungi — scarily alien, terrifyingly real fungi. The adaptation is doubling down on the realness of the fungi, with cold opens in...

The history of video games is filled with brief eras of “clone” titles. In the early ’90s, there were various “Doom clones” that are now known as revolutionary first-person shooters. In the ’80s, Dragon Quest clones eventually contributed to the global rise of the Jrpg genre. Even now, you still have incredible games trying to free themselves of the “Dark Souls clone” label. Yet, there are few clones that have historically received less respect than Resident Evil clones.
Even though it borrowed quite a few ideas from titles that came before (most notably Sweet Home and Alone in the Dark), 1996’s Resident Evil really did change the horror gaming landscape pretty much overnight. Naturally, Resident Evil‘s success led to a number of similar titles that borrowed some of that game’s best ideas.

Mortal Kombat is one of the most iconic video games of all time. It has a lengthy, genre-defining legacy that’s withstood the test of time in several mediums. Actors Courtenay Taylor and Ron Yuan, who voice Kira and Sub-Zero, respectively, in the Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind animated film, understand this. Taylor (widely known for voicing Jack in Mass Effect and Ada Wong in Resident Evil) is no stranger to joining a well-respected franchise. The same goes for Yuan, who has been in a slew of television and film throughout the years and recently joined the Mk Universe in full as the new Scorpion in Mortal Kombat 11. In the video above, both cast members sat down with Emily Aslanian in the TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine New York Comic Con 2022 suite to talk about Snow Blind, what fans will love about it, and being huge fans of the franchise themselves,...

For the most part, the world of Pokémon is a happy-go-lucky place where humans and wild, superpowered animals peacefully coexist. However, those who know the franchise bet know that it is filled with dark corners and disturbing secrets.
Some of the franchise’s Pokédex entries are basically condensed X-Files episodes. Certain subplots, such as a mission where Ditto replaces humans, feel torn from the pages of EC Comis. Oh, and there’s always Lavender Town. That place is just plain creepy.
While the franchise is full of scary locations, such as the Old Chateau and Strange House, none have captured gamer imaginations and terrified the Crabrawler out of them quite like Lavender Town. This tiny village introduced audiences to the terrors that hid just beneath the surface of Pokémon’s kid-friendly world, but more importantly, it inspired ghouls and ghoulettes across the world to create their own stories and rumors based on the haunted hamlet.

Nightdive’s System Shock remake looks and sounds good, but the question that’s constantly being asked (and hasn’t been answered) is just when it’ll be released. Nightdive has said that we’d be able to enter Citadel Station sometime this year, but according to the game’s listing on Steam, that might not be the case.
Spotted by Wario64, System Shock‘s Steam page now lists the game as releasing in “March 2023“. Obviously, things can and do change, but this is already more specific than a nebulous 2022 release date. Furthermore, despite Nightdive saying that the game would see a 2022 release, the Gamescom trailer never did mention that date. The last time 2022 was mentioned was when Nightdive announced that they had teamed with publisher Prime Matter for distribution, but that was back in December.

While all of these Resident Evil fan films/shorts are done with heart, fighting zombies and evil corporations doesn’t always have to be serious business. That’s certainly the case with the fan-based web series “S.T.A.R.S”, dark comedy take on Resident Evil has released two episodes so far, with more in the works.
Currently, the series is slated for 15 planned episodes, but there are also several gag reels and trailers to watch. The series is being penned by Michael Young, who has previously worked on other parody videos for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom involving YouTuber Maximilian Dood.

German powerhouse Constantin Film and Frank Spotnitz’s Big Light Productions have teamed to make a high-end drama series about the events surrounding the Nuremberg Trials.
The drama, currently unnamed, follows the prosecution of Nazi officials after World War II, the first time in history that people were held accountable for war crimes, exploring characters from all sides of the trials.
The series will be executive produced by Oliver Berben and Robert Kulzer for Constantin Film, Spotnitz and Emily Feller for Big Light, and Ron Maxwell (Gettysburg) along with Jeff Berg of Northside Services.
“This series is a real powerhouse,” said Spotnitz. “It’s an investigative mystery, a suspense thriller set both in a courtroom and on the global stage, and one of the most searing moral dramas imaginable. The characters and the issues all seem startlingly relevant and contemporary.”
