This film repeatedly makes fun of Hallmark movies. Luke Macfarlane has starred in 14 Hallmark movies.
Jai Rodriguez was an original cast member of the first, early-2000s incarnation of Queer Eye (2003).
Luke Macfarlane revealed he had no inhibitions during his sex scenes with Billy Eichner. "Specifically we had an LGBT intimacy coordinator, so they were familiar with language that might be a little bit different. Billy and I felt really comfortable. We gave each other permission to go for it." He said there was only one thing he refused. "There was a moment when Billy was like should we spit on each other? And I was like, 'Nope! Nope!' So that was something that I decided not to do."
Shortly after its release, a theater chain told Universal Studios that it wanted to pull the trailer because of the gay content. Universal convinced it not to.
The film cost around $22 million to make, and
grossed $4.8 million in its opening weekend.
Billy Eichner tweeted his disappointment on Oct. 8, 2022, saying, "That's just the world we live in, unfortunately. Even with glowing reviews, great Rotten Tomatoes scores, an A CinemaScore etc, straight people, especially in certain parts of the country, just didn't show up for Bros. And that's disappointing but it is what it is." According to Nicholas Stoller, exit data found its audience to be overwhelmingly gay and bisexual men.
