Gandalf was already resurrected once, so why can't Peter Jackson do it again? Ian McKellan seems tepidly on board, although he does have one pretty big caveat. "I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him,...

Ian McKellen says he’s open to returning as Gandalf in the upcoming new Lord of the Rings films.
In an interview with British magazine the Big Issue, the actor discussed returning to his iconic role as the grey pilgrim.
“I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him,” McKellen said. “When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!”
McKellen portrayed Gandalf in the first three Lotr films as well as the Hobbit movies.
In May, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav shared that the company is “now in the early stages of script development” for new Lord of the Rings films which are anticipated to have a 2026 release date and will “explore storylines yet to be told.” The first film, from New Line Cinema...

After being injured in an unfortunate fall earlier this year, Ian McKellen — now 85 years old — is making like Chumbawamba and getting up again. Speaking to the press this week, the beloved actor confirmed that he’s not only planning on returning to acting, but even hopes to reprise his iconic portrayal of Gandalf for the upcoming Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum.
McKellen voiced his desire to continue acting in a recent conversation with the BBC, saying, “I shall just keep at it as long as the legs and the lungs and the mind keep working.” He did, though, reveal that he will “take the rest of the year off” to continue recovering from the broken wrist and chipped vertebrae he suffered after falling off the stage during a production of Player Kings in London’s West End.

As another Lord of the Rings film nears production with The Hunt of Gollum, we are still left wondering who from Peter Jackson’s original trilogy will return. By and large, most have been open to it. But at 85 and 10 years removed from Gandalf, is Ian McKellen still seeking it, seeking it? Or is it more the fans whose thoughts are bent on it?
Speaking with the UK’s Big Issue (via Deadline), Ian McKellen said that he is aware of the upcoming film but there are too many mysteries surrounding it for him to confirm or deny. As McKellen put it, “I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him. When? I don’t know. What the script is? It was back in May when Warner Bros. announced plans for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new movie set near the beginning of the original trilogy which will star and be directed by Andy Serkis (Venom: Let There Be Carnage).
Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who wrote the previous movies, are penning the screenplay, along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou (The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim). Filmmaker Peter Jackson, meanwhile, is producing the project and it appears the idea is for this to kick off a new slate of big screen Middle-earth outings.
The hope among fans is that at least a few familiar faces will join Serkis in the prequel, and it appears Sir Ian McKellen will indeed be among them.

When Prince William promised to do his best to get rid of homelessness, he wasn’t thinking he could slip into this character and sell some copies of Big Issue maybe every once a year and congratulate himself on job well done.

Emilia Clarke is opening up about returning to “Game of Thrones” after suffering two brain aneurysms during her time as Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO show.
In a new interview with the Big Issue, Clarke said that after her first injury — which occurred in 2011, in between filming the first and second season, and required surgery — she feared that she would be dropped from the series.
“When you have a brain injury, because it alters your sense of self on such a dramatic level, all of the insecurities you have going into the workplace quadruple overnight,” Clarke said. “The first fear we all had was: ‘Oh my God, am I going to get fired? Am I going to get fired because they think I’m not capable of completing the job?’”
Another fear was that it would happen again — and this time on set. She told the Big Issue that she remembers thinking,...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “The Crown” Season 6, streaming on Netflix now.
The final episodes of “The Crown” have dropped and, as Netflix boss Ted Sarandos pointed out at the premiere of Season 5, that means Google searches will be going up, since many fans like to fact-check scenes from Peter Morgan’s royal drama while they watch.
“This is the story of Queen Elizabeth. This is the story of the royal family. Peter has told and dramatised these stories, some very memorable, some forgotten, judging by the Google activity that happens every time we drop a new season,” said Sarandos at the premiere last November.
Annie Sulzberger, who is head of research on the show, said that if fans spot discrepancies between real events and those on “The Crown,” those are intentional. “This is a drama, and dramatists have to look at history differently,” she told Variety. “These are not inaccuracies.
