The protagonist was never written to be a female role, but after Seanna Ladd auditioned the directors Oscar Sanchez and J.R. Curtis decided to change it.

For the lawnmower scene, the sounds heard in the film were captured by director J.R. Curtis at his day job in a grocery store meat department, some of the sounds are a sausage grinder, a chicken tenderizer, and a band saw cutting through cow bones.
