Heart warming and very funny

Very much worth watching Sami is a great character.

Peter, Kate and John work very well as a trio.

Love the comedy and the sentiment that goes with it

Original, sharp and brilliant.

Let's face it, there's so much rubbish on TV now, it's very difficult to find something decent. I've completely given up on ITV as they pander to the brain dead.

So, how refreshing it is to find this superb sharply written comedy/drama with brilliant performances from all the cast.

Comic timing is spot on.

The Ebola scene where Sammy bangs his head on the table was classic. It's also heart warming and one can really root for the characters.

The utterly brilliant Rebekah Staton is always on top of her game, in my opinion she is the most underrated and under used actress. With her talent, particularly for comedy she really should be cast by Hollywood now.

Why don't they bring back Great Night Out and Raised with Wolves? Don't miss this series. Let's hope for series two. Brilliant.

British comedy at its finest

This has to be one of the best British comedies of the last 10 years. Heart-warming story of an illegal immigrant and the expectations of the British way of life which are dashed in true black comedy style.

Brilliant Series

I can't remember ever being so impressed by such great writing and acting in a series in years. Both Youssef Kerkour and Rebekah Staton are fantastic and bring a depth to both characters not usually prevellent in "comedy". Hats off to Rufus Jones and Channel 4 for bringing such a great series to us .

Heres hoping for a second series .....and its only half way through series 1?

Wow... what has happened?

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Season 1 and the premise of the show. The relationships between characters was humorous yet strong.

However, Season 2? Did the writers change? Or the beverages at Channel 4? This season has been hilarious throughout! It's had me constantly laughing out loud, embarrassingly so. It has made me cry a few times too. The writing is just that good! The script has become the kind of comedy you would think would be turned away by all but the bravest of networks. It is totally brilliant. I've ended up finishing the show in two evenings, and I am left most definitely wanting more! The surprise of the year for me.

Lucky catch

Saw this advertised during the ad break in Derry Girls. Rebekah Staton! Watched the first episode and really enjoyed it, a bit of Della Garry shining through! Thoroughly enjoyed it, can't wait for the next episode.

Quite good but...

It's quite a good show.. though the anti-german and pro-uk propaganda is unwelcome.

Not Funny, Irritating and Annoying

This series is billed as a comedy/drama. I found scant comedy, maybe the occasional wry chuckle, instead I found it to be irritating, annoying and a sad comment on the current state of the UK.

The occasional laugh does not a comedy make, even dramas have the odd moment of hilarity.

The characters:

Katy - a divorcee - irritating with her arrogant, entitled, my way or the highway attitude. No wonder she is divorced. Is this what passes for a strong independent woman? John (her son) - irritating little so and so John (the live-in partner) - basically a simp and the butt of everything, constantly nagged by Katy and John; constantly reminded that it is not his house (did it come from the ex-husband). One feels for this bloke. Is this how men are portrayed on TV these days? Sami - the only "normal" non-irritating character.

If you looked upon the series as satire or social commentary, you would probably do OK.

Glorious comedy.

Why on Earth didn't I watch this first time round. I put the first episode on, and couldn't switch it off, it had me captivated. It's one of those comedy shows, that has so much more to offer up, it's insightful, moving, heart warming, and gives us some of the best characters I've seen in a show for some time.

The characters, each of them plays their part, develops the story, and has a journey, the acting is flawless throughout.

There are two incredibly poignant scenes in particular, that exquisite moment in the Post Office, and the scene on the bus, both are funny, but at the same time, make you think long and hard.

The most surreal scene comes with the Yucca plant.

I cried, I laughed, I questioned, I googled, it made me want answers, it made me want more, Rufus if you're reading, can we have more please? 9/10.

Clever and funny, not the PC anti British rubbish you were expecting.

I was resistant to watching this as I felt I knew what it was about before I watched it , when it comes to immigration in the UK , we don't do mature or reasoned so to watch something about immigration that is clever and funny and not an attempt to attack people for wanting to discuss immigration is a breath of fresh air. Clever and funny with some excellent acting.

More please

I'd not long seen a short clip a few weeks ago, which was reflective of 'some' British attitudes which are not something the British should be proud of. At the time, I didn't realise it was an actual show. Enjoyed both the humor and touching insights into a world that many of the west are not aware of. Highly recommended. Hooked

Nothing funny 'bout peace, love and understanding

This was warm and sweetly human, but it also seemed to be a homeopathic "cure" for a disease called "humour".

A perfect performance from Youssef Kerkour (Sami, the refugee) and a fine performance from Rebekah Staton. But this just wasn't sufficiently funny: one laugh-out-loud moment, courtesy of the German host family, just wasn't enough.

I think the writer/producer should have been braver, stripped off the thin veneer of humour, and revealed the heart of oak: a gentle but affecting drama about the human condition.

Brilliant

Poignant, great acting and a modern classic. Stands up against farther ted, black books and other channel 4 greats.

Hopefully this will be renewed for a third series. The first and second series were groundbreaking and very well acted. The cast is perfect.

The story is creative and wholesome. Definitely worth a watch if you liked the detectorists, flight of the concords, the mighty boosh or anything along those lines.

Beautifully written and acted

Slightly apprehensive before watching this, wondering whether it would belittle the issue but it was handled sensitively and with humour. The characters were all believable and the acting superb. I do hope there will be another series.

Brilliant

Really well written, made me cry, made, me laugh and made me cringe (marmalade show) the subtle digs all the way through at racism, xenophobia and homophobia were excellent. Also made the point of why people become refugees, not for the NHS and of course Brexit!! Need more like this.

Only watched 1st episode, so far, I love it!

As a Syrian, this show is wonderful, we don't usually get mentioned in movies or TV shows, but this one, we see a fair and satisfying display of the Syrian story, I laughed on Sami's attitude sometimes, and some other times, like when he left that voice message to his wife, my heart ached so badly, and I am excited to watch more..

It's criminal that this hasn't had more recognition !

I'm only 4 episodes in but this is such a worthy and genuinely beautifully written series by the guy who I recognise from the job adverts back in the day . 😉

Rufus Jones has written something that makes you feel all emotions from sadness to joy to comedy brilliance.

It reminds me of 'After life' solely on the basis that it's chronicling the ups and downs of a serious and complex situation that rightly makes you think outside the box but Without being naff and cringeworthy. It will open your eyes in a good way I'd like to think .

I started watching it solely down to watching a scene that C4 had put on Facebook .
