Edit
At its original release in Paris, France, this film played in 57 theaters in three weeks.

When Mads asks Viktor for six kroner to pay the wash-woman, that would equate to about $1.25 at the time or more than $21.00 in 2023.
Remade in 1942 during the German occupation of Denmark in WWII as Tyrannens Fald (1942) (The Tyrant's Fall) with Mathilde Nielsen reprising her role as the nanny and Karin Nellemose moving into the role of the mother.
Lars Fjeldmose composed and played a new piano score for the full movie when it was re-released for DVD by Palladium in 2018. A live performance by the composer to accompany Dreyer's movie is set in 2021 in Copenhagen at Cinemateket (Danish Film Institute).
