Although shot in 1925, and shown to the British press in March 1926, this movie wasn't released in the U.K. until after The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927) was a massive hit in 1927.
This is the earliest Alfred Hitchcock movie that remains widely available. Number 13 (1922) is thought to be lost, and only one reel of Always Tell Your Wife (1923) has survived (and even then it's next-to-impossible to track down).
Cinematographer Gaetano di Ventimiglia hid the camera underneath Alfred Hitchcock's bunk, in an attempt to avoid Italian duties. The unexposed film was confiscated, and the crew bought new film to shoot on-location, seriously depleting the budget. Later, the confiscated film was returned.
Assuming its copyright has not lapsed already, this film and all others produced in 1925 enter the U.S. public domain in 2021. This is also the first of Alfred Hitchcock's filmography to enter the public domain.
