This move was the very first Norwegian full feature silent movie. Before this there had only been made news shows and documentaries. The author died in 1974 after sneaking off to the forest. His family found several finished and unfinished works after his death. Some of these have later been published. Mikkel Fønhus in not thought of as one of the great Norwegian writers, still he may have been the one who has written most about the rural conditions for the regular people struggling to survive in the harsh conditions outside of the cities. He also put a lot of focus on the animals perspective. something that might have drawn down on how seriously people looked upon his works. Still his books are very describing and manage to show the rough beauty of the harsh conditions for people where living under.
