Recently, there has been speculation regarding the completion status of the much-anticipated released film, ‘Ladykiller’. The director of the film, Ajay Bahl cleared the air around it saying that the film released is a complete film and not an incomplete one as the rumours suggest, however a sarcastic remark made in passing has been picked up in a wrong connotation to which he clarifies.
He says, “It’s a humorous take on a baseless rumour circulating about the film’s completion status. I understand that humour and sarcasm can sometimes be misinterpreted. I want to emphasize that ‘Ladykiller’ is a complete film which has been released for the audiences and I am immensely proud of this project. I am grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in bringing this film to fruition.”

From The Boxer's Omen to the genuine unpleasantness of Calamity Of Snakes, we take a look at a stomach-churning subgenre of cinema...
In 1975, Ho Meng Hua’s Black Magic cast its spell over Chinese audiences and summoned up a subgenre that produced some of the most extreme, esoteric and stomach-churning horror films of all time. Between the late 70s and early 80s, Chinese black magic movies were pumped out en masse, feeding audiences their fill of evil sorcery and twisted moralizing. The formula usually featured some poor schmuck enlisting a dark wizard to help them achieve something (more often than not, something sexual) and finding that the forces they’ve unleashed are more than they can handle. Cue the flamboyant special effects and abundant nudity.
These films took inspiration from authentic folk magic for their various spells and rituals which, sadly, means they frequently feature real animal slaughter.

Above: 2-panel poster for Remorques aka Stormy Waters (Jean Grémillon, France, 1941). Poster by Henri Monnier.
I’ve posted a couple of gorgeous posters for the films of Jean Grémillon in other contexts, but now that the unsung auteur is getting his due with a month-long retrospective at the Museum of the Moving Image, I thought it was time to look at his entire oeuvre in posters. Grémillon has been written about often and eloquently in these pages by David Cairns, and the Notebook has just published the first part of a translation of a terrific 1978 article on the director, so I feel there’s little I can add in the way of exegesis. But I have managed to gather posters for thirteen of his feature films which I present in chronological order from 1928 to 1953. My favorite, beyond that stunning Daïnah la métisse which I’ve written about before, is the...

Tod Browning’s “Freaks”
Before R-ratings, anti-heroes and gratuitous violence and nudity in mainstream Hollywood movies, there was the Hays Code. As a form of self-policing the industry, virtually every movie released up until 1968 needed that stamp of approval if it wanted distribution. And while it helped produce all of Old Hollywood’s true classics for several decades, it often included ridiculous rulings like not being able to show or flush a toilet on screen, not allowing married couples to be shown sleeping in the same bad or always making sure criminals, even protagonists of the movie, got punished in the end.
But before the Hays Code was nothing, and it was a gloriously weird, scandalous time for the movies. Certain Hollywood films in the early ’30s as “talkies” were rapidly taking hold have since been labeled “Pre-Code” films that never received Hollywood’s stamp of approval.

17. Home Invasion
The true sense of urgency in “Claimed” is reserved for the scenes with Rick and the gang of would-be-rapists and murderers invading the house. Seith Mann does a stellar job sustaining the tension in these scenes, as Rick tiptoes from room to room in search of either a weapon or an escape route.
16. Living Dead Doll House
“Claimed” features some memorable moments shared between Carl and Michonne who confesses bits and pieces of her former life to Carl, such as the former existence of her then-three-year-old son, Andre Anthony. There’s plenty of tension to be found in the house-clearing scenes as well, most notably the images of a family, laid out post-execution style in a pristine child’s bedroom. It’s also worth noting that the painting Michonne finds in the house, is a portrait of Mary, who we later meet at Terminus.

Person of Interest Season 3, Episode 3: “Lady Killer”
Directed by Omar Madha
Written by Amanda Segel
Airs on Tuesdays at 10 Pm on CBS
When Person of Interest first started, it had a simple cast of Reese and Finch (Jim Caviziel and Michael Emerson, respectively) being hunted every week by Taraji P. Henson. This has now transformed to a full roster of characters (assets)-many of them women- that the show has its disposal. “Lady Killer” drives this point home time and time again when Reese and Finch receive a number from a regular Casanova, a real “lady killer” (get it, guys?) who they suspect might be a stalker/serial killer. To find out for themselves, they bait the waters with Carter, Shaw (Sarah Shahi), and political fixer Zoe Morgan (Paige Turco). While Reese and Finch are focused on the new number, Root (Amy Acker) is continuing her crazy-person-athon at the...

Call them Finch's Angels.
Sam Shaw, Joss Carter and Zoe Morgan had their time to shine on Person of Interest this week, as the bevy of beauties donned sexy club attire, excitedly compared weapons and left the boys to play backup. Nothing quite like a ladies night, right?
Using the femme fatale trio as bait on "Lady Killer," the Machine pulled up a number for a Boston playboy who teetered on the lines of stalker/killer and just plain overly attentive.
It was nice to see Warren Kole as the focus, especially since he's played a bad guy on Fox's The Following and a good guy on USA's short-lived Common Law. It wasn't easy to tell which way his character, Ian Murphy, would fall, although the ominous music played tried to convince viewers when he was holding a knife or following Carter.
Except the real truth was about familial lineage and social class.

Even after seasons of watching "Person of Interest," there's something incredibly validating about seeing yet another person realize that the Machine is actually real. In the case of tonight's episode, "Lady Killer," it's the psychiatrist who Root was dealing with in the Season 3 premiere that finally got to see the Machine at work.
After being absent in episode 2, "Nothing To Hide," Root broke free from the mental institution in "Lady Killer" just like she had promised she would. If there was any doubt that the Machine actually is aiding Amy Acker's character, then that was cleared up in tonight's episode. The Machine really does have a plan that Root is carrying out on its behalf, and Finch has been cled into that.
There was some serious panic in Harold Finch's face when he realized that Root escaped, but the real question is whether or not he realized that...

Prior to tonight's "Person of Interest" episode, "Lady Killer," Zap2it can exclusively debut a scene from the episode -- but with one small catch: the scene in question was illustrated by the folks over at DC Entertainment.
As can be seen below in the snippet from tonight's Season 3 episode, Shaw (Sarah Shahi) and Carter (Taraji P. Henson) take down two men who are coming after the man Carter is seemingly on a date with. Beyond how awesome the Shaw-Carter partnership is on this mission, it's definitely worth noting that Carter is kissing the man, named Ian, who she's with in the first frame. Is she just getting really embedded in a mission for Finch and Reese, or has she found a new man in her life?

Avengers Initiative: Kansas edition a.k.a. The Wannabe Hunters
We open with a pair of adolescents making out in a car, on a deserted road in Conway Springs, Kansas. Turns out, the girl is Krissy Chambers, the obnoxious teen who “helped” Dean take down a couple of Vetalas, a while back.
A few minutes later, a blue van pulls up near the car, and we get the stereotypical “who’s there?” moment when a random shadow passes by the car a few times. At first the boyfriend, Aiden, tries to start the car, but as I said, “typical moment”... and the car won’t start. The boyfriend waits a couple of heartbeats, then makes a run for it, leaving her pleading ass behind.
The shadow, a young man, breaks the passenger side window and grabs her, yanking her out of the opening... And just as I’m about to...

Miles Teller made his big-screen debut just a few years ago, starring in the 2010 indie flick "Rabbit Hole" opposite Nicole Kidman. With a steady career on the rise ever since - from his role in the teen comedy "Project X," to appearing in the "Footloose" remake - Teller is stepping it up in his latest film.
"21 and Over" centers on three buddies (Teller, Skylar Astin, Justin Chon) who head out for an evening of epic festivities as one of them celebrates his 21st birthday. What ensues after that is a night filled with crazy experiences they'd rather soon forget.
NextMovie caught up with Teller to chat about all the debauchery in "21 and Over" (including going almost fully nude), which superhero he'd like to play, and why he won't wear a trench coat in any of his films.

You've probably heard Wallpaper.'s music on "Jersey Shore," and maybe you saw him tagged as one of Buzzworthy's 11 artists to watch in 2012.
The brainchild of rapper/songwriter/remixer Ricky Reed began as an attempt to bring some lighthearted fun to dance music with songs like "F---ing Best Song Everrr" and "#STUPiDFACEDD." But after gaining attention with a sax-blasting remix of Das Racist's "Combination Pizza Hut & Taco Bell," remixes of songs by Passion Pit and Local Natives, and an album and Ep of party-starting originals, he's hooked up with two music legends for a deceptively tossed-off-sounding song called "Anyway."
"The hook wasn't right, you know, and every song needs a great hook, so who better than [Weezer singer/songwriter] Rivers Cuomo to come in and finish it up for us?" Reed...

Gearbox and 2K Games think you might still be willing to bet on Duke with this expansion for the crude shooter.
Duke has, I think taken all the knocks that can really be given the long-delayed release of Duke Nukem Forever. At this point, you're in one of two camps: you didn't like it for its lack of polish, actual toilet humor, and lackluster shooting or you knew what you were getting into and frankly it's a miracle that the game even exists. So Gearbox, six months after the game's release is continuing to support the game for those of you sticking it out in the latter camp with the second Dlc release, "The Doctor Who Cloned Me," bringing a new chunk of story and more multiplayer maps to the console and PC versions of the game.
Here's the good word on the Dlc from the press release:

It's about that time: Cee Lo Green is re-releasing his album "Lady Killer" and has combined with Weezer's Rivers Cuomo for a little extra material. "Anyway" is the new single from the "F*ck You" singer, and the track was penned by Cuomo, Immaculate Noise featured artist Wallpaper and songwriter Ross Golan. And it grabs hold of what everybody already knew: girls love guys with money! And, boy, do b**ches love shoes! 'miright? Sigh. It's a catchy track, regardless, and seems to directly counter the short-sight chick that broke Cee Lo, erm I mean Bruno Mars', heart in "F*ck You" and it's...

Ol' Dirty Bastard's life story is still coming to a theater near you … eventually. The rapper also known as Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus or just simply Odb died in 2004, and in 2009 his cousin and fellow Wu-Tang Clan member RZA mentioned a biopic was a possibility.
In a recent interview with Xxl, RZA dished some details on the project, and it sounds like it's moving into high gear. Not only that, it's attracted the attention of "30 Rock" star Tracy Morgan and actor Eddie Griffin.
It looks like Griffin is the more likely choice to play Odb, for now, if only because the two were friends. RZA told Xxl, "Eddie spent time with Dirty... They knew each other well." (Sorry, Tracy. Sounds like you'll have to wait some more for your crack at the Egot.)
Odb's cousin Raeshawn's been hard at work on the script, and RZA's given his approval.

Cee Lo Green has definitely mined a very specific retro 1950s vibe in the videos he's released so far from his Lady Killer album. But when it came time to work up a clip for "Cry Baby," he picked a guest star who is best known for his work in the 1990s as the ultimate über-nerd.
Yes, Jaleel "Urkel" White is all grown up now and looks nothing like his four-eyed goofball character from "Family Matters." He's also a much better dancer then you might have remembered. Jean Gabin was France's answer to Humphrey Bogart, many (English-language) historians have claimed. Either that, or Gabin was France's answer to Spencer Tracy. Never mind the fact that Gabin was a major international star before either Bogart or Tracy achieved Hollywood stardom. In other words, if there was someone emulating someone else, it was Bogart and Tracy who followed the Frenchman's lead so as to become the American Jean Gabins. Turner Classic Movies is devoting a whole day to Jean Gabin's movies today, August 18, as part of its "Summer Under the Stars" series. [Jean Gabin Movie Schedule.] Right now, TCM is showing Julien Duvivier's Pépé le Moko (1937), the tale of a Parisian gangster (Gabin) hiding in Algiers' Casbah neighborhood, but who becomes careless after he falls for a beautiful woman (Mireille Balin, Gabin's co-star that same year in Jean Grémillon's Gueule d'amour / Lady Killer). Cee-Lo Green has just made public a music video supporting his newest single "Cry Baby". Being a busy guy with a lot of scheduled performances and other commitments, the Gnarls Barkley star is ruled out of becoming the main star in the clip.
Soon after the premiere, Cee-Lo revealed that the video was filmed without him knowing. "I had no idea they shot a video for cry baby," the Goodie Mob member wrote on Twitter. Though so, he gave his approval, "I hear its cool though."

The city of Las Vegas owes Cee Lo Green a little bit of scratch for putting on such a nice commercial for them. The solo and Gnarls Barkley singer has released the new music video to "Lady Killer" track "I Want You," based in Sin City and amped with the dollars of a heavily branded liquor (the name to which I will not mention, for I have not been sent my own sample). For decades, British singers and bands have packed up their instruments and wellies and jetted to New York with high hopes of conquering America. Most of them have been sent back with their guitar cases between their legs, defeated by the disinterested Yankee public and intimidated by the expanse of the nation's sprawling music market.
But not Adele. The U.K. songbird has not only planted the Union Jack on these shores, she's damn near set up house in the country that has adopted her soulful tunes as their own. In a week when all but one of the top 15 albums on the Billboard 200 albums chart saw double-digit sales dips, Adele's 21 sold more than enough copies to hold on to the #1 spot yet again, despite a 19 percent drop-off from the previous week. Indio, California — Despite finding message-board haters among some festival vets for snagging a headlining spot at the 2011 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Kings of Leon won over the first-day crowd on Friday night, as the masses in attendance couldn't help but sing and sway to the band's radio-friendly rock.
Saying they were "tired of playing the new stuff," the Kings dug out "Molly's Chambers" from their pre-big-time 2003 debut Ep, Holy Roller Novocaine, which joined more-recent hits "On Call," "Sex on Fire" and "Use Somebody."
The rockers' Who-reminiscent "Black Thumbnail" finale of feedback and drum pummeling ended not with smashed guitars, but with good-ol'-boy singer Caleb Followill knotting up his handkerchief to toss into the adoring crowd.

If the peacock version of Cee Lo Green at the Grammys this year didn't suit you, try the Lady Killer instead. The singer and rapper stars in his "Bodies" music video, keenly directed by Mikael Colombu and co-starring Kerry Washington. Cee Lo is literally a killer of ladies (Ok, and a doctor, too) in this animated adventure, which features the "Ray" actress seeing red at the heel of her own shoe. But Green develops a crush on another potential victim, a "Tightrope"-walking circus star (I see what you did there) who has shady homicidal tendencies of her own. Mmmm, pulp fiction....

Ho Ho Ho! Welcome to the Holiday Edition of Afterelton's Music Roundup. Like a gift at a Pink Elephant party, we've also been given second attempt albums by those artists who should probably just stick to their original (I'm talking to you Mariah!).
With everyone from Train to The Killers to Coldplay churning out holiday hits at the last minute, there's much to discuss. On the flip side, we'll pick back up with new non-holiday material (Cee Lo Green, Adam Lambert, Joe McElderry and Real Housewives of Atlanta's Kandi Burrus) all worth a listen, so let's get started.
