Maurice Braddell was asked to write the dialogue at very short notice by Basil Dean and sat up "night and day in order to complete his task in a fortnight". The script was then passed to "two gentlemen from Hollywood", whose chief aim "appears to have been to alter everything everyone else had done". When their ideas were put before Gracie, she responded "It's mucky.", which proved sufficient for the suggested amendments to be removed.
His uncredited appearance as a singer was George Sander's film debut.
