For Better or Worser (1935)

Trivia

For Better or Worser

Edit
This cartoon makes use of Fleischer's Tabletop process, which animates the cels vertically between multi-plane set pieces in order to create the feeling of depth. Used here for the city streets. The whole effect is lost in the color version, as the backgrounds is a flat redraw.
This was the last Popeye cartoon produced with William Costello as the voice of the eponymous sailor. He became increasingly difficult to work with, and was fired for asking for a vacation in the middle of production.
Oscar, Popeye's bucktooth friend from the Thimble Theatre comic strip makes a very rare appearance in this cartoon. He can be seen managing the desk of the matrimonial agency.
The clerk calling for Olive's number, "CALL FOR NUMBER THIRTEEN!", was a parody of bellhops announcing a call for a guest at an upscale hotel, but was also possibly a parody of Johnny Roventini's famous bellhop call for Phillip Morris cigarettes, "CALL FOR PHILLIP MORRIS!"
