The missing group of girls, "Florie-Dorie Girls" was a spoofed name from a group of first-grade-aged dancers who acted in Beginner's Luck (1935).
There are a few lost scenes.
1) The boys in the audience call for the "Florie-Dorie Girls": "Bring on the dancing girls!" "Yeah, bring on the Florie-Dories!" Then the chant "We want the Florie-Dories!" starts.
2) Cookie comes out to remove the sign "Singing," putting on the record for the dance and she begins to raise the curtains. That is when they cut to the boys saying "Remember, do everything that Spanky does!"
3) They show Elmer the monkey in Spanky's bustle skirt during the dance, sticking Spanky with the needle in his behind. That is why we see the dance going in another direction. It was a whole cycle of music where at the end he jumps and turns and during the shaking Elmer's tail pops out of the rear of Spanky's bustle skirt.
