Due to threats made toward crew-members by Haitian Papaloi priests, production was moved to Jamaica. Two crewmen reportedly died there, one from yellow fever, the other an infection resulting from a barracuda bite.
The film's release in America was delayed until early 1942, when it was distributed briefly under the title "The Love Wanga."
