    No Surprises But Well Done

Villainous Walter Miller and Matty Fain have forged a bll of sale from Muriel Evans' father for the ranch. Buck Jones and government investigator Harvey Clark check it out.

It's a fast-paced B western directed by Ray Taylor, Universal's expert in getting out westerns and serials out in jig time. There's some cowboy swing music, thanks to Joe Bishop, and the print I looked at was in great shape. Nothing startling about this exemplum of one of the Seven Standard Western Plots -- saving the pretty girl's ranch -- but it's well paced, well shot, and gets the job done: a good example of why Jones placed in the top five cowboy stars for years.
