The failure of the original copyright holder to renew the film's copyright resulted in it falling into public domain, meaning that virtually anyone could duplicate and sell a VHS/DVD copy of the film. Therefore, many of the versions of this film available on the market are either severely (and usually badly) edited and/or of extremely poor quality, having been duped from second- or third-generation (or more) copies of the film.
The background comic art (panels) shown on most of the original posters for this serial came from the Sunday "Dick Tracy" comic page of December 6, 1936.
In Chapter three, Mike McGurk commenting on the garbled message coming over the short wave radio that it might be Russian or Hog Latin referring to Pig Latin or Igpay Atinlay.
Gould's contract specified further Tracy films be a series or serials. As they were both, author Gould received no further payment for the use of his character.
