Even though records show the film as 66 minutes long, copies that are available today are only 53 minutes long and have fade-outs throughout as though the movie were playing on commercial television. It's unclear what happened to the missing minutes, but the cuts were made by Republic Studios in 1952 when they sold their library to television syndication.
Bbased on "The Chinese Orange Mystery" by Ellery Queen.
The monogram that detective Ellery Queen uses, "E Q", is the same as the actor playing him, Eddie Quillan.
The Chinese Mandarin stamp is an amalgam of three real-life precious stamps. The 1897 Chinese 10 Cent On 9 Candareen is arguably the most valuable Chinese stamp ever thanks to the surcharge being upside down. The 1918 Inverted Jenny is one of the rarest American stamps because the plane is humorously upside down. Finally, the descriptions of the Chinese Mandarin as "one of a kind" and the "most valuable stamp in the world" mimics the 1856 British Guiana 1 Cent Magenta.
The $50,000 the stamp is worth would be the equivalent of $1,065,866.91 in 2022 money.
