Merle Oberon in Over the Moon (1939)

Trivia

Over the Moon

Edit
Producer Alexander Korda hatched this movie as a showcase for his then lady love, Merle Oberon.
Production began in 1937. By the time the final re-takes were completed in 1939, the appearance of Merle Oberon, both in terms of make-up and hairstyle, had changed considerably, and are quite apparent in the finished movie.
Sat on the shelf for two years before finally being granted a release.
Ursula Jeans (Millie) played the part of Fanny Bridges in the Academy Award Best Picture winner Cavalcade (1933). Near the end of that film, Fanny's mother calls on Lady Marryot, her former employer, to explain that Fanny is romantically involved with her son, Joe Marryot. By way of explaining that a former maid's daughter is worthy of marriage to a Lord's son, she states that Fanny is now quite successful and is appearing in the London stage production of "Over the Moon".
This movie was included in the first syndicated television presentation of a package of major studio feature films on U.S television; it premiered in St. Louis Sunday August 1, 1948 on KSD (Channel 5), followed by Detroit Sunday, August 22, 1948 on WWJ (Channel 4), by Baltimore on Friday, September 3, 1948 on WMAR (Channel 2), by Philadelphia on Friday, September 10, 1948 on WFIL (Channel 6), by New York City on Friday, September 17, 1948 on WPIX (Channel 11), by Boston on Sunday, September 19, 1948 on WBZ (Channel 4), by Chicago on Monday, September 27, 1948 on WGN (Channel 9) and by Los Angeles on Sunday, October 10, 1948 on KTLA (Channel 5). Although filmed in Technicolor, these telecasts were in black-and-white, since color broadcasting was still in its experimental stage. The package consisted of twenty-four Alexander Korda productions originally released theatrically between 1933 and 1942.
