This was the first of three appearances (all in 1937) by Gabby Goat, a character created by Ub Iwerks. The other two were Porky's Badtime Story and Get Rich Quick Porky.
The radiator cap on Porky's car is shown as the top of a percolating coffee maker (Percolator).
Camping was a popular vacation activity at the time of this short. The equipment Porky and Gabby bring is a fairly accurate depiction of what was used then. A military style canvas tent and sturdy ropes with pegs was standard fare for rugged outdoor folk.
