    early talkie western

Lots of horse riding and chasing around the country side at the opening of this film. Father and daughter Bradfield are talking about the upcoming "roundup", but dad is worried about the property rights where they hold the roundup... says they need to prove that the land was given to them in a land grant, so he tracks down the deed to their land. but he doesn't lock it up, so someone has stolen the deed, and its up to them to get it back! the wanted guy "jack cardigan" meets up with the sheriff, and tells his side of the story. although he has taken the sheriff's horse and gun, so now he's in just as deep, I guess until he can prove his side of the story. Sound and picture quality are pretty bad, but imdb had this listed as a lost film until recently. Currently showing on Epix Vault Channel. It's okay. acting and script are both pretty bad. Everyone had started in the silent films, so they all act and speak in a slow, cardboard manner, since it was so new. Looks like it was filmed at Corriganville, but who knows. Recorded on the Powers Cinephone System (?). Directed by JP McGowan. He was a busy guy.. directed 15 films in 1930! Written by George Durlam, who seems to have written mostly westerns and documentaries about U.S. history. I guess we're lucky this one is still around, but it's pretty rough around the edges.
