Norma Shearer in Let Us Be Gay (1930)

Trivia

Let Us Be Gay

Edit
At the time of its release, this film features the next two actresses to win Best Actress at the Academy Awards, Norma Shearer would win at the ceremony later that year for The Divorcee (1930), and Marie Dressler the year after for Min and Bill (1930).
Shortly before production of this film began, lead actress Norma Shearer found out she was pregnant and would soon be showing. So, filming quickly began and was completed in 26 days. Towards the end of the shoot, she had to keep her stomach hidden behind carefully placed furniture and extra fabric in her designer gowns.
Tallulah Bankhead originated the role of Kitty Brown in the 1929 Broadway play.
This film received some of of its rare early telecasts in Honolulu 23 January 1958 on KHVH (Channel 13), in Salt Lake City 5 February 1958 on KTVT (Channel 4), in San Francisco Friday 21 February 1958 on KGO (Channel 7), and in Windsor ON (serving Detroit) 26 February 1958 on CBET (Channel 9). There is no reliable documentation that it was ever telecast in New York, Los Angeles or Philadelphia at this time, most likely because of its age and major market sponsor resistance to some of the pre-code aspects of the film which were not acceptable by mid-1950s standards. Ironically, it's been just these qualities which have endeared it to today's audiences who enjoy an occasional opportunity of viewing it on Turner Classic Movies and/or owning the DVD which Turner released as part of the WB Archive Collection 15 September 2009.
According to the AFI Catalog entry for this picture, Niles Welch was considered for the role of Bob Brown before Rod La Rocque was cast.
