Sin Takes a Holiday (1930)

Trivia

Sin Takes a Holiday

Edit
Constance Bennett really plays the piano in this picture according to a contemporary article in Film Daily.
The opening view of Lower Manhattan is an historical snapshot of New York's Financial District in 1930. The building under construction is the American International Building (70 Pine Street in 2021), which would be New York's third tallest building when completed in 1932. Modern sources indicate that the following establishing shot of the New York City office building was filmed in downtown Los Angeles, at the recently constructed Eastern Columbia Building located at 849 S. Broadway. There is a closeup of its clock tower which reads "EASTERN".
As a secretary, Sylvia is paid $35 a week by Gaylord. That would be equivalent to $665 in 2024, adjusted for inflation, or $34,580 a year. As compensation for marrying him, Gaylord offers Sylvia $5,000, which is equivalent to about $95,000 in 2024.
According to an article in the 10/8/30 edition of "Film Daily", a total of 32 sets were constructed for this film, including 32 sets designed by Carroll Clark, including apartments, villas, hotels, shops, and night clubs in New York and Paris, an ocean liner stateroom, an ice rink, and New England scenery. Constance Bennett served as technical advisor on the film, which is set partly in Paris, France. Bennett reportedly spent at least four months each year in Europe and owned homes in Paris and Cannes, France.
Was not a success at the box office on its initial release, resulting in a loss to the studio of $40,000 ($761,000 in 2024) according to studio records.
