A young Judy Garland (then still known as Frances Gumm) auditioned for the Cora Sue Collins role and almost got the part.
At a 2018 Q&A session with Cora Sue Collins following a screening of the film, she reported that she still had vivid memories of making this first film and that she remained good friends with Zasu Pitts and Slim Summerville.
It turn out to be Cora Sue Collins's debut.
Although there is no reference made via writing credits, this film is essentially a remake of earlier Universal production That's My Daddy (1927), with primary character roles adapted to suit the comedy stylings of Slim Summerville and Zasu Pitts (they are played relatively straight by Reginald Denny and Barbara Kent in the earlier film). The role of the nurse was also greatly expanded from the first version to give Pitts more screen time.
