    Formulaic Western

It seems that trios were very much the thing in the 30s and 40s,what with Hopalong Cassidy and his sidekicks,The Three Mesquiteers, and in this film Billy The Kid also has 2 sidekicks.Dave O Brien is more familiar from the Pete Smith Specialties.Fuzzy Knight must have more credits than any one else around 350.He seemed to play every part the same.and the same could be said for this western. It is rather like filming by numbers. If you want originality then don't bother with this film.Perhaps the only slightly unusual aspect is the fact that the doctor is a villain who tries to kill all of his patients.Quite frankly i found it difficult to keep interested in this film.

Buster Crabbe heads up a great western cast

Buster Crabbe and Fuzzy keep the Billy the Kid legend alive and well. Joan Barclay, a favorite western leading lady is as endearing as ever. Ted Adams, who usually plays the villain doesn't disappoint as shiffty Sheriff Carson. Doc (Milton Kibbee) is the king of malpractice as all of his patients somehow end up dead. Future comedy writer, Dave O'Brien plays it true to form in the threesome of cowboy heroes. John Merton gives his usual strong performance as the top bandito. St. John's Keystone Cop background served him well with some great scenes with Dickey (Joel Newfield) and some great one-liners like, "That low down posionous horn toad."
