Seven Miles from Alcatraz (1942)

Quotes

Seven Miles from Alcatraz

Edit
  • [first lines]
  • Champ Larkin: [voice over over shots of Alcatraz] You gotta admit, it's a pretty piece of masonry, that Alcatraz, but it never was a choice spot for a vacation, and this war soured the place but good. There it is, sticking up like a nose on your face right in the middle of San Francisco Harbor.
  • Champ Larkin: [voice over as the shot now switches to inmates inside] And there's us, sitting on top of the sweetest target on the west coast with no place to go if somebody decided to start dropping scrap iron. Eight hundred big time hoodlums waiting for it: pennies from heaven.
  • [last lines]
  • Champ Larkin: [voice over showing Champ coming into consciousness at the lighthouse] As I came out of it, they were talking about Jimbo. This intern was saying the little guy would be all right. I wanted to get up and cheer, when Anne comes at me, so I close up and play dead. And you won't believe it, but right then and there she lays one on the line. And that ain't all of it. She tells her old man like this: "He's an ape all right, but I'm gonna wait till he gets out and make a man of him." And her old man...
  • Champ Larkin: [the scene changes to the warden's office] Cap Porter, he said... well sir, he said...
  • Prison Warden: What did Porter say?
  • Champ Larkin: Well, something about Anne not having to wait very long on account of what happened, and... the government... well Warden, kind of like a pipe dream.
  • Prison Warden: Porter might be right. Glad to be back, Champ?
  • Champ Larkin: Well sir, like I was saying, pretty piece of masonry that Alcatraz, but it never was a choice spot to spend a vacation.
